Fandom Mashup #93

Fandom Mashups
Fandom Mashups is an original feature here at Lunar Rainbows Reviews.  Every week, I propose a unique fictional scenario and then we build our own personal dream team of five fictional characters from five different fandoms to complete the task!  Anyone is welcome to join up - all I ask is that you link back to me somewhere in your post :)

Hello friends and happy Sunday.  I hope you've had your morning tea (or coffee) because we have something of a dire situation on our hands today:

There's an impending war on the horizon. Eek!  As tensions rise, you gain information that could stop the crisis before it starts - but you need to act fast!  Who do you call on to help?

The Flash

Obviously if I need to act fast, I need ''The Fastest Man Alive''. The Flash will get me there before anything bad happens for sure.

Avatar Aang

If we need backup, we need Avatar Aang. With the power of all four elements on his side, he can use Air, Water, Earth or Fire to get us where we want to go.

Batman

Batman might not be known for his speed, but he's a tactical genius, he knows the situation going in and he ALWAYS has a backup plan.

Vin

Vin's almost like a metal bender. She can use metal to gain super-powers like flying, strength, and so much more. I have a feeling her skills would come in handy.

Felicity Smoak

Felicity could probably get the information we have out on the net without us having to move an inch.  And if not, she'd have our backs on any mission.

Who would you call on?

Harry Potter Moment #181

Harry Potter Moment of the Week
Harry Potter Moment of the Week was created by Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts  and is hosted here @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote or memory  from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!  How to join up &  upcoming topics here.

Hello friends and happy Potter-Thursday!  It's nearly the weekend so that's always a good sign :) Things are serious in the Wizarding world today because we're going to 1. do a 'would you rather' topic and those are almost always impossible. And 2. we're going to battle!

Would you rather battle Draco or Lucius?

Both characters could to with a nice Hex (or two) if I'm honest but I love both of the actors who play them which makes this a tricky one. I think...that Draco's endgame makes him a bit more sympathetic than his father, even despite all the horrible things he's done previously...whereas Lucius didn't seem to grow very much at all...which makes him the HEX WINNER!

Look at that deranged look^^ Those crazy eyes^^ Oh he's going to get a nice Hex in the face! That should sort him out ;)

Who would you rather battle?

Happiest of Sundays to you my fellow geeks ♥ I wish you all a fantastic Sunday! Just to make sure you do have a fantastic Sunday though, here you go :

You've gained psychic abilities. SCORE.  The only problem? You can't control them. D'oh!  Who do you think could help you hone your talent?

Professor X

I think that the best person to help me master my new abilities is, in fact, Charles Xavier.  I feel more confident already!

Sam Winchester

Sammy has some experience with gaining powers that are a bit much.  He learned the hard way too so his advice would be priceless

Obi Wan Kenobi

Obi Wan might not have had the best of luck with Anakin but the Force eventually was balanced so he did better than he likely gives himself credit for.  He's my favorite Jedi, he's brilliant so he's in!

Spock

Spock has a lot of mind skills that I think would come in handy here.  His ability to see various outcomes and probabilities would certainly be helpful too.

Albus Dumbledore

Dumbledore is brilliant. Period. Any input he'd had would help me along the way  and he's a pretty badass mentor too!

Harry Potter Moment #180

Harry Potter Moment of the Week
Harry Potter Moment of the Week was created by Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts  and is hosted here @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote or memory  from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!  How to join up &  upcoming topics here.

Hi! Hi!  How is everyone doing today?  How is the week going for you all?  We had a wicked blizzard hit us on Monday and they're calling for another significant snowfall/storm for today. I already have Mondays so that was fun but today I usually work until 7pm but I have a snow day. Yay! Let's forget the Muggle world though for a mo' and talk about everyone's favorite fictional mom:

Favorite Molly Weasley moment?

Molly Weasley is GOLD. That's all there is to it. Even when she's being your typical over-protective mom, she still manages to warm my heart and make me smile.

One of my favorite aspects of Molly's personality is that even though she already had her hands full with 6 children, she never hesitated to welcome Harry Potter into her home and treat him as one of the family. ♥

When she butted heads with Sirius in OotP, it wasn't pleasant because I adore both Molly and Sirius. I could see both their points but I just didn't want there to be any tension between them. Especially not over Harry because I knew he loved them both too. Nonetheless, I have to mention this passage:

“[Harry’s]’s not your son,” said Sirius quietly. “He’s as good as,” said Mrs. Weasley fiercely.

Because despite Sirius having stepped up now, Molly has claimed Harry as her own and she will protect him as fiercely as her own children! If that doesn't give you feelings well I'm sorry, you're a robot. (Or a Dursley...)

But let's be honest. We all have a favorite Molly Weasley quote and for most of us, it's this one:

 “NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH.”

Nothing beats hearing a proper, polite older woman throwing out the B-word for good reason. And then proceeding to go to town on one of the most powerful witches around. Proving that Molly Weasley is a BAMF and the source of Ginny's awesome powers.

Spread the Molly Weasley love everyone!

Hello Fanboys and Fangirls!  Happy Sunday :D  My busy work week is officially behind me so I'm looking forward to some down time this coming week - not to mention catching up on my reading and blogging! Before I do though, looks like love is in the air :

With Valentine's Day fast approaching, you're feeling uncharacteristically romantic. Huh!  Which 5 fictional characters would you like to spend a romantic evening with? -OR- Which characters would you like to hang out with and watch cheesy romantic movies with?

Obviously, I'll be doing both topics. Ha! I know none of you are surprised by that statement LOL! So let's start with the romantic topic. I'm not much of a Valentine's lover in real life but fictional romance is a whole other thing:

Which 5 fictional characters would you like to spend a romantic evening with?

The Doctor

My crush on the Tenth Doctor knows no bounds and isn't subject to the passing of time. Like a Timelord, it.is.timeless.  I mean, look at him^^ ♥ The Doctor is heroic, clever, exciting, brave and foxy - not just a little bit either. He's a whole lot of foxy ;)

Harry Potter

I adore Harry Potter as a character and a hero but I also have a crush on him.  Not like 11-year old Harry mind you (though he was cute) but older, heroic af Harry. Something about a selfless hero... with messy black hair. Sigh.

Sam Winchester

Most girls fall in love with older brother Dean but from the moment I started following the Winchester's adventures, my heart belonged to Sammy.  Sam is a tortured hero but I love him for his kind heart and his endless bravery. Oh and Castiel too ;)

Bruce Wayne

I grew up loving Batman more than any other superhero but this guy^^ is the best Bruce Wayne/Batman to me. I loved him before Batman Begins so needless to say I was sold from the start. I could totally fall for the guy regardless of his nighttime activities...

Kaladin Stormblessed

Kaladin is like one of those classic Greek Gods and the more you get to know him, the dreamier he gets.  Now the books themselves aren't romantic but Kaladin is just plain amazing. He's had a rough life but he always does the right thing.

Which characters would you like to hang out with and watch cheesy romantic movies with?

Rose Tyler

A girls night with Rose sounds like so much fun because she's SO REAL.  As soon as she got out of bed in that first episode of new-Who with that crazy bed hair, I immediately loved her and wanted to hang out with her.

Ginny Weasley

I love all the girls from Harry Potter but Ginny is my go-to for a fun time. Growing up with her brothers has given her a great sense of humor and a spunky attitude. Spending the night giggling with her over movies sounds like a blast!

Celaena Sardothien

Celaena could do with a quiet night in I think and I'd love to hear her snarky comments as we watch cheesy romantic movies together over chocolate and popcorn.  I have a feeling we'd be roaring with laughter until or faces and stomachs hurt.

Felicity Smoak

Felicity has this gift for the funniest rambling comments I've ever heard in my life. I want her there just to hear what will come out of her mouth!  I have a feeling she'd have some good ones about the corny romantic lines :D

Katniss Everdeen

Here's another girl that could do with a relaxing girls-night!  Katniss never really had a chance to make girlfriends or enjoy any kind of normal teenaged fun so I need to change that!  I can just imagine how much good it would do her.

How would you spend your perfect Valentine's Day?
And which characters would you choose to spend it with?

Review: The Eternity Code

The Eternity Code by Eoin Colfer
Artemis Fowl #3
Published April 3rd 2003 by Hyperion

Artemis Fowl is going straight—as soon as he pulls off the most brilliant criminal feat of his career...

At least, that's the plan when he attempts to sell his C Cube, a supercomputer built from stolen fairy technology, to Jon Spiro, one of the most dangerous business in the world. But Spiro spring a trap—stealing the C Cube and mortally injuring Butler. Artemis' only hope of saving his loyal bodyguard is to employ fairy magic; so once again he must contact his old rival, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon police.

It's going to take a miracle to save Butler, and Artemis's luck may have just run out....
The Eternity Code is the third book in the Artemis Fowl Series and yet again I find myself wondering why I waited so long to get into this series. The series continues to be fun and exciting, while expanding the world, developing the characters and building on what the previous instalments put forth

There was a bit less action this time around - other than a few memorable scenes - and I found this instalment is a bit more cerebral.  It showcases Artemis' brilliance even more than previous adventures have done because this time, Artemis faces an adversary that might just be as brilliant as he is.  It's surprising, but it had to happen right?  I enjoyed seeing Artemis being outsmarted because it forced him to grow and to think outside of the box.  Plus, when you're as much of a genius as our boy is, you need to be kept in check from time to time, right?

Artemis also faces a moral conundrum in The Eternity Code. I won't say where this is coming from, other than it's to do with his family but it's certainly given Artemis cause to question his lifestyle and his choices.  I can see him transforming as the series moves forward but he doesn't seem to have turned over a new leaf just yet - and honestly, where would the fun be if he did?

The other characters in the series are all lovable too!  It's a joy to be reunited with all the best characters in the series time and time again, both the fairies and the humans. The turn in Butler's storyline in The Eternity Code made me sad though, but it opens up a lot of possibilities for Juliet Butler which is amazing in her own respect.  I just hope that Butler's presence will continue to be in the forefront. His relationship with Artemis and his character are both aspects that I want more of.

I continue to feel super impressed by how each story opens up with a human angle and a fairy angle, only to have both worlds collide time and time again, and in unique ways every single time.  I think every single one of my reviews for the books in this series has stated how these read like an adult action film - if adult action films had fairies and a teenaged boy genius of course. The sass and humor are always on point and they're one of my favorite aspects of this series thus far! They continue to shine through with The Eternity Code, even though to underlying plot was darker and more dangerous than ever before.

I honestly have no clue which direction the series will evolve in from here, all I know is it's sure to be memorable, exciting and snarky. I'll be jumping into The Opal Deception in no time! Fantasy readers, action-lovers and snark lovers alike should really check out this series if you haven't already. I had this feeling as The Eternity Code was wrapping up: like I could truly love this series. I'm enjoying it for sure, but I think that might just turn into true love....sooner rather than later.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Harry Potter Moment #179

Harry Potter Moment of the Week
Harry Potter Moment of the Week was created by Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts  and is hosted here @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote or memory  from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!  How to join up &  upcoming topics here.

Hi all! Oops, I forgot to post this yesterday :O #mybad Hopefully none of you will mind if I'm a day late.  I hope you're all having a magical week?  I've been busier at work this week so my blog-hopping has fallen behind but next week is back to normal so I WILL catch up with you all ♥  In the meantime, we're talking Hogwarts Professors today! Namely:

Who would your favorite professor be?

Oh gosh this is a tough one!  Naturally my first impulse is to scream LUPIN at the top of my lungs and leave it at that. I adore Remus Lupin and I would have loved attending his class ♥  The thing is though, Lupin was only there for one year *sobs* so as true as this answer is, I feel compelled to also chose another, more constant teacher.

Now, if I'd been lucky enough to have Dumbledore as a teacher, I just know his wisdom and sense of humor would have won me over instantly.  However, if we're going to assume that we were all in Hogwarts during the time Harry and co. were (which obviously we were, hello!) then I have to go with McGonagall!

McGonagall is tough but she's such an inspiration. She's brilliant, she's strong and she knows her stuff. I'm sure meeting her for the first time would be intimidating but year after year, getting to learn from her would have been a true honor.

Who would your favorite professor at Hogwarts be?

Hi all!  Happy Sunday!  I have a very busy work week coming up which I'm not especially looking forward to. I'm definitely going to make the most of today though...apparently by travelling back in time:

You find yourself in ancient Rome lined up to become a Gladiator. Woah.  The one upside is that you get to pick your own team to train you up for the task. Who do you pick?

Maximus Decimus Meridius

Clearly the inspiration for this topic, I'm not doing anything Gladiator-like without Maximus! He is the KING.  Honestly though, Gladiator is one of my all-time favorite movies ♥

Celaena Sardothien

Dual swords, a kick-ass attitude and survival skills like nobody's business. If Celaena can't train me up into a fierce warrior, I don't know who can!

Zuko

Speaking of dual-swords^^ Zuko wouldn't even need to learn swords with his Fire-Bending but he takes it upon himself to become EPIC.  Mission accomplished!

Kaladin Stormblessed

Kaladin is a fierce warrior and a survivor if I ever heard of one. His skills are legendary and they've saved his life more times than either of us can count! He'll be a huge asset here.

Obi Wan Kenobi

Let's face it: Lightsabers are basically swords made of light and Obi Wan has SKILLS. Anyone who can face that crazy mofo^^ is a boss Jedi.

Who would you want to train you up as a Gladiator?

Review: So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish
by Douglas Adams
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy #4
Published November 1984 by Pan Books

Back on Earth with nothing more to show for his long, strange trip through time and space than a ratty towel and a plastic shopping bag, Arthur Dent is ready to believe that the past eight years were all just a figment of his stressed-out imagination. But a gift-wrapped fishbowl with a cryptic inscription, the mysterious disappearance of Earth's dolphins, and the discovery of his battered copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy all conspire to give Arthur the sneaking suspicion that something otherworldly is indeed going on. . . .

God only knows what it all means. And fortunately, He left behind a Final Message of explanation. But since it's light-years away from Earth, on a star surrounded by souvenir booths, finding out what it is will mean hitching a ride to the far reaches of space aboard a UFO with a giant robot. But what else is new?
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish marks a pretty significant departure for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Series. Why? Well for starters, the majority of the plot takes place right on Earth, instead of travelling the Galaxy! You wouldn't think a story that features space travel at it's core could maintain its momentum while solely exploring our own planet but here it works.  That might just be because of the other departure this instalment offers: a love-story that's central to the plot and a bloody good one at that!

To quote the most famous line in this series: Don't Panic!  There's still aliens, space travel, robots and lots of weirdness to be had here!  There just also happens to be a truly lovely romance to set everything off. I was surprised when the romance started to blossom to be honest but the more it developed, the more impressed I became. Without becoming an overt love-story, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish manages to contain some of the most subtly sensuous and genuinely beautiful romantic moments I've come across in sci-fi so far! Imagine!  Who knew that Douglas Adams was such a romantic? (I sure didin't!)

Once again our favorite human Arthur Dent is front and center in this instalment so I was pleased right from the word go. The beginning was mysterious as fuck and honestly, I still have some questions regarding the Dolphins and the Earth itself that I'm hoping with be addressed in the conclusion...but I wouldn't be surprised if neither even gets a fleeting mention. Such is Adam's style and to be fair, I've enjoyed the ride so far so who I am to complain?

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish does a wonderful job of keeping things just as random and silly as ever, by highlighting the weirdness that is humanity.  You don't have to travel through space to see aliens, you just have to look in your own neighborhood.  This might be one of my favorite instalments in the series! I thoroughly enjoyed the romance, the characters and the story itself!

Harry Potter Moment #178

Harry Potter Moment of the Week
Harry Potter Moment of the Week was created by Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts  and is hosted here @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote or memory  from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!  How to join up &  upcoming topics here.

Hello Potterheads and happy Potter-Thursday!  I hope you're all having a magical week so far and that none of you are letting the Muggles get you down ;)

Favorite Quote from the Goblet of Fire

I don't know about you guys, but I always have a hard time picking my favorite quotes in any of the Potter books. A part of me wants to write down every sentence from every book and count that as my favorite quote LOL!  So I hope you'll all forgive me for featuring more than one quote!  I'll start with my favorite one though:

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.”

And since there's nothing quite like some Albus Dumbledore wisdom, have some more:

“It is my belief... that the truth is generally preferable to lies.”

And finally, let's end this post on a funny note with this classic:

“Draco Malfoy, the amazing bouncing ferret...”

That last one always makes me crack up^^

What are your favorite quotes from GoF?
