Harry Potter Moment #190

Harry Potter Moment of the Week
Harry Potter Moment of the Week was created by Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts  and is hosted here @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote or memory  from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!  How to join up &  upcoming topics here.

Hi all!  I hope everyone is well?  We've got a different kind of HPMotW this week: we're sending our favorite Harry Potter characters into other fantasy worlds outside the Wizarding World:

What other fantasy settings/worlds would Harry Potter characters do well in? (Like who would win the Hunger Games, who would do well in the Mines of Moria, who would be a good addition to the Avengers etc.)

Harry Potter in The Old Kingdom - I've said it before but I think Harry and Sabriel share a lot of  similarities and I truly think Harry would make an excellent Abhorsen!

Ron Weasley in Middle-Earth - Ron reminds me of a Hobbit a lot and I think a quest in Middle-Earth would Gandalf would really show off his qualities.

Hermione Granger in Roshar - Roshar has a lot of strong, intelligent women owning some pretty spectacular powers. Jasnah especially would make an excellent mentor for Hermione.

Ginny Weasley in Scadrial - I can easily picture Ginny as a kickass Mistborn, flying around with the help of metals, and generally just being badass.

Minerva McGonagall in The Hunger Games - Admit it: if anyone else could survive the Hunger Games, it'd be McGonagall. At.Any.Age.  This woman is a BAMF.

Albus Dumbledore in Shades of Magic - Can't you just picture a young Dumbledore hopping from one London to the other with his 'Room of Requirement Coat' causing all kinds of trouble?!

Luna Lovegood in The Lunar Chronicles - Is it just me or does Luna have a fairytale-feel to her? Especially when said fairytale ends up on the Moon! Eeep!

Sirius Black in The Raven Cycle - A young Sirius befriending the Raven Boys, and looking for magical places, kings and the like...Oh my! Can you say perfection?

Remus Lupin in The Wolves of Mercy Falls - Similarly, picture a young Lupin having other Werewolf friends and a semi-normal life...maybe even a romance...*sobs*

Fred and George Weasley in Artemis Fowl - Fred and George have just the right wit, humor and snark to fit right in with Artemis and his associates!

What do you guys think?

Fandom Mashup #105

Fandom Mashups
Fandom Mashups is an original feature here at Lunar Rainbows Reviews.  Every week, I propose a unique fictional scenario and then we build our own personal dream team of five fictional characters from five different fandoms to complete the task!  Anyone is welcome to join up - all I ask is that you link back to me somewhere in your post :)

Oops! I'm a day late posting my own MEME. Sorry!  After my crazy work week last week, I was useless yesterday. I just stayed in bed all day and cuddled with my cats LOL! I need to get my shit together though because we're dealing with serious magic today:

You've discovered ancient magical textbooks that teach the user how to summon beings like Demons, Jinni, Angels and the like. Which creatures would you summon first?

*Note: I'm breaking my own rule: I'll be using characters from the same fandoms because there's so many I love.*

Crowley

Crowley shows up in Supernatural full of flare, sass and bad intentions.  He really causes some serious trouble and he's exceedingly cruel at times. BUT. He's soooo charismatic. And he gets better! I just love the guy and definitely want to be on his good side so the summons will be purely friendly.

Bartimaeus

Bartimaeus is my new favorite Jinni. He's got Crowley's sass and he's cheeky af but there's much more to him than meets the eye. I'd honestly like to befriend him so I'd summon him in the nicest way possible and I wouldn't enslave him.

Castiel

My favorite Angel of life. Seriously, Castiel is a life-changing entity in the sense that when he shows up in Supernatural Season 4, you can't help but fall in love with him. I want to hang out with Cas all the time, laugh at his anti-social awkwardness and bask in his phenomenal cosmic powers!

Lucifer

This post is like an Ode to Supernatural but whatever. Lucifer is an angel and one of the best things about Supernatural (though if he asks, tell him I said he was THE best thing). Sure he's absolutely terrifying but his snark and sarcasm is pure gold.

Gandalf

According to Tolkien, Gandalf is an 'angel incarnate' so he makes the list. I adore Gandalf to know end and I want to get to know him. I doubt any spell could summon him but I'll do my best. I'm pretty sure that he and Castiel can keep Crowley and Lucifer in line ;)

What about you all?  Who are your favorite Demons, Jinni and Angels?

Harry Potter Moment #189

Harry Potter Moment of the Week
Harry Potter Moment of the Week was created by Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts  and is hosted here @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote or memory  from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!  How to join up &  upcoming topics here.

Hi everyone! Sorry for the delay in posting - I'm basically working a double week in one this week and am fighting off a flu/cold so this morning I got out of bed, got ready and bolted for work without even thinking of Harry Potter *GASP*  Imagine! Blasphemy, I know. Next week things will be normal again and I'll be a proper Potterhead and fangirl again ;)

If you could change one thing from the fifth film, what would it be?

I'm going to skip over that hateful toad because she does serve a purpose, as vile as she may be. I think that my least favorite thing about the 5th film is how Ginny's character development and purpose is totally glossed over. OotP is where her character truly comes through and she's able to be herself more around Harry.  She puts him in his place over the Christmas Holidays and as much as I always liked her, she earned my respect and admiration 110% in this book. In the movie it's like they couldn't be bothered. The longest book in the series became the shortest film so obviously they trimmed A LOT of good stuff, but I think Ginny's character is the worst offender of all.  It's such a shame.

What about you guys?

Fandom Mashup #104

Fandom Mashups

Hey everyone!  Happy Easter to those who celebrate!  I have a very busy work week coming up so I'm not relaxing as much as I usually do on Sundays - send positive thoughts my way? In any case, it *IS* Sunday, which means we're talking Fandoms:

You've been put on trial for crimes you may or may not have committed O.O  Put together a team of 5 brainy characters (lawyers or otherwise) to help you out of this tight spot.

Artemis Fowl

Artemis Fowl wouldn't care if I'm guilty or not, the satisfaction of winning would be enough for him.  And anyone who knows him KNOWS he can win anything, without a doubt.

Hermione Granger

Hermione is brilliant we all know it but I've picked her because she went out of her way to help Hagrid when he went on trial for Buckbeak.  She might have an issue with helping me if I am actually guilty though...

Sam Winchester

Sammy is obviously a BAMF but he was also pre-law.  When Dean got put on 'trial' by a god of Justice, Sam lawyered his way out of trouble for the both of them. Sam would be less conflicted if I'd actually done a crime, so long as I wasn't cruel or anything.

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock wouldn't rest until he proved my innocence just because he's obsessive like that. And IF I'm guilty, Sherlock could still get me off by finding a loophole or something - if he liked me enough and I wasn't really evil.

Matt Murdock a.k.a. Daredevil

Matt is a brilliant lawyer who moonlights as a superhero.  If he liked me even a little he wouldn't rest until he got me fair representation. If I'm guilty though I won't be able to hide it from his other heightened senses...

Who would you want to come to your rescue in this scenario?

Harry Potter Moment #188

Harry Potter Moment of the Week
Harry Potter Moment of the Week was created by Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts  and is hosted here @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote or memory  from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!  How to join up &  upcoming topics here.

Hello Potterheads and happy (or harry?) Thursday ;) I hope you've all got your thinking caps on because today's topic is a thinker:

How did Lockhart add to the overall storyline?

Lockhart annoys me. A lot. But I think that can be said for every one of us.  If I'm being fair, he does add certain layers to the overall Harry Potter story arc. Like:

* He showed the risks and dangers of Memory Charms (and using a broken wand)

*He added a layer to the cursed DADA position plot-point simply by repetition of another Professor lasting only one year.

*He's proof that being clever doesn't necessarily mean being intelligent or brave. Indeed he was a good and clever spellcaster but he certainly wasn't all that bright.

*He's a prime example of how adults aren't always smarter than kids.

*He's a poster child for the pitfalls of celebrity. He just wanted to be famous, more than being good or clever or even decent.

What do you think Lockhart added to the HP storyline?

Top Ten Tuesday #64

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish which features a variety of bookish top ten lists!

Hi everyone! I've been really busy at work lately and I ended up missing last week's TTT which was totally meant for me... so I'm doing it this week instead - I hope no one minds but I have a feeling that none of you will be surprised :)

Top Ten Fandoms I'm In

Harry Potter

The best fandom of all and the fandom that launched all the other fandoms for me.  The Harry Potter books were life changing on their own but they also opened up a world of fandoms and made me the fangirl I am today ♥ The Boy Who Lived will always be my hero!

Doctor Who

Sure it's campy and retro but I knew I was done for the moment the Ninth Doctor told Rose who he was in the very first episode of New-Who in 2005. This show has so much heart and too many feels not to be one of my top fandoms!

Batman

Batman was my obsession back before I even knew what I fandom was.  I was obsessed with all the Batman things in my early teens and the Christopher Nolan film-trilogy relaunched it with a vengeance.

Sherlock

I've found that it's impossible to have just one BBC fandom. It starts with Doctor Who, then there's Sherlock, Merlin and before you know it, you're drowning in feels. Sherlock is brilliant, thrilling and emotionally crippling but totally worth it!

Supernatural

I wasn't sure about Supernatural at first, being a self-professed scaredy-cat.  The first season is scary but it isn't long before the feels drown out the creepiness (mostly) and then it's too late: you're already done for. You're welcome.

The Old Kingdom

Only my 2nd bookish fandom but this series gave me ''Potter-level'' feels and I don't say that likely. I was instantly swept away by the classic fantasy feel of this trilogy, it's fascinating magical system and it's mesmerizing characters. So.Much.LOVE. for these and Nix in general!

The Stormlight Archive

Adult high-fantasy at it's finest. This series features the longest books I've ever read but I never felt like they were too long. Not for a second. This is my favorite Sanderson series of life. The world-building is staggering, the magic is mindblowing and the characters are brilliant.

Throne of Glass

I consider myself in the Maas-fandom really but Throne of Glass started it all and it remains my favorite of Maas' work.  Never has a book series caused me such emotional distress and I still want MORE.  This series might just be the death of me but bring it on!

The Raven Cycle

We can't talk fandoms without talking about Miss Stiefvater and her Raven Boys. This series consumed me and even though it's over it hasn't loosened it's grip on me even slightly. I long to find Blue and her Raven Boys and just step into their world, even for a second.

The Hunger Games

Last but certainly not least, the fandom that solidified all that is good in the YA genre. The Hunger Games introduced me to Dystopian fiction, it fascinated me, it devastated me and it inspired me. Long live The Girl on Fire!

Are you a part of these fandoms?
What other fandoms do you belong to?

Hey everyone!  Happy Sunday ♥ I hope you've all come by with your appetite because we've got a foodie's dream to get to today:

Mmmmm. Food!  You've been invited to an extravagant buffet *drool*  Which foodie characters do you invite along to chow down with?

Homer Simpson

Homer Simpson is the quintessential foodie. Sure he eats ridiculous things sometimes but he's also shown impeccable taste when he needs to. If we're talking food, Homer's my go-to guy.

Sam Winchester

Now I know what you're thinking: Dean is the real foodie of the Winchesters. But I disagree. Dean's all about junk food. Sam has much more discriminating tastes and he's much more into good, healthy foods which works for me ;)

Molly Weasley

Mrs Molly Weasley cooks like a dream as we all know but I have a feeling she could do with a nice meal she DIDN'T prepare.  I bet she knows all about food too so I want her input here^^

Celaena Sardothien

Celaena not only deserves a nice meal but she sounds like she knows what she likes too. I have a feeling she'd be ordering extravagant foods I've never even heard of - but I'm dying to try!

Jughead Jones

Even before Homer Simpson, there was Jughead Jones. He was the first fictional foodie I ever heard of and one of my favorite characters in the Archie Comics which were my LIFE growing up.  Jughead knows what's up. Although between him and Homer, I hope there will be food left for the rest of us LOL!

Which fictional characters would you invite out to lunch?

Harry Potter Moment of the Week was created by Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts  and is hosted here @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote or memory  from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!  How to join up &  upcoming topics here.

Hello Potterheads! Hope you're all having a lovely week so far?  Our topic today is coincidentally timely as Fred and George's birthday was just this past Saturday! Happy belated birthday to Fred and George Weasley!!

Favorite Fred & George Moment

I think that the entirety of Harry's 5th year at Hogwarts is where Fred and George really shine! I mean they get Weasley Wizard Wheezes going, they join Dumbledore's Army, they get in a fight with Malfoy AND they stick it to Umbridge time and time again until they go out with a literal and figurative BANG!  To be honest though, every time these boys have page/screen time, they make it a moment to remember - I just love them both so much :)

What's your favorite Weasley Twins moment?

Fandom Mashup #102

Fandom Mashups

Happy Sunday everyone!  I'm going to be very, very lazy today since work has been hectic recently and I have another big week coming up.  Lazy sort of works with our topic this week too because I certainly was a lazy teenager XD

Dude, you're in high-school again. Wait...what?!  Imagine yourself as a teen again and tell us which characters you'd be hanging out with!

Ginny Weasley

Out of all the fantastic girls in the Wizarding World, I think I'd have been drawn to Ginny most of all. See, I'm basically Hermione and Luna mashed into one and I always had feistier friends. They helped me be less shy and gave me courage so Ginny seems the natural choice.

Blue Sargent

Blue is another girl I've always felt drawn to.  She's sassy and kind of anti-social but she became an integral part of an existing clique just by being herself.  The Raver Boys respected and accepted her instantly. I'm hoping some of that could rub off on me LOL!

Avatar Aang

I remember when Aang made himself at home in a Fire Nation School - smack dab in enemy territory.  And they LOVED him.  Aang is a fun, sweet, caring and accepting guy with an amazing group of friends. I just wanna be part of the gAang!

Katniss Everdeen

Katniss is a girl I admire a lot but she seems approachable at the same time. I mean sure she's intimidating but her knack of befriending the underdog says a lot about who she is inside.  I'd give anything for her to have had a normal high-school experience and hang out with her through it all.

Percy Jackson

Percy Jackson is an all-around nice guy. He's friendly, he's welcoming and just someone I could see hanging out with.  His sass, snark and sense of humor appeal to me too - I bet we'd have spent all our high school years laughing like a couple of idiots haha!

Who would you want to go back and hang out with?
