Top Ten Tuesday #61

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish which features a variety of bookish top ten lists!

Top Ten Books I Read in 2016

The Raven King - I reread so many passages, so many times, I basically reread the entire thing. Feels! So many feels!  And PYNCH. It'S a thing and it was perfection ♥

A Court of Mist and Fury - The new direction the series took turned the story from awesome to life-ruining.  I still dream of the Night Court by the way, just in case anyone is wondering.

Mistborn: Secret History - This novella rocked the entire Mistborn series, in such a fucking brilliant way, I'm reeling all over again just thinking about it.

Illuminae - This book wasn't perfect, but the format, storytelling and suspense were incredibly well utilized, so it made up for it. If I wasn't reading this book, I was thinking about it. Constantly.

Empire of Storms - When your least favorite book in the series still makes your top book list for the year, it says a lot about the series...and the author. Long live Maas! #StillNotOverThatEnding

The Bands of Mourning - I hadn't been loving the Wax and Wayne books as much as the original Mistborn trilogy but this book ended with such a mindfuck, it changed everything.

The Golem's Eye - This series has some of the best world-building and magic I've come across this year. I love the gritty atmosphere and the demons of course!

Clariel - This is by far and wide the least well received book in the Old Kingdom but I enjoyed it more than most. It isn't my favorite but it still delivered where it counted for me.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - To me, the first book here is by far the strongest book in the series and when you factor in the the audiobook is narrated by the incredible Stephen Fry? Magic.

The Harry Potter Series - I reread the series for the first time in five years so (obviously) it made the list. This series gets better every time I read it.

2016 was clearly the year of blue-ish/gray-ish books (with a few exceptions)
What were your favorite books of 2016?

  1. I've been considering re-reading the Harry Potter series in the near future. It does get better each time through. I also loved the first Hitchhikers Guide book - I should get around to the sequels eventually!

  2. The Raven King made my list too! Love that series, but I'm looking forward to the spin off series with Ronan. Hope 2017 is filled with amazing books!

    My Top Ten Tuesday

  3. Love that cover of Mistborn, and *nods* about Illuminae. I think you have me talked into trying the Nix series at some point. Awesome list!

  4. Wow, what a great list of books! Out of the ones I've also read, I loved them all! I've still yet to read The Raven Boys series (though I did try the first once and didn't get far), but I'm being convinced I need to give them a second chance! Great list. :)

  5. Great list, Micheline! I really need to get around to reading Clariel, so I'm really glad to hear you liked it. :) One of these days I really need to read some Brandon Sanderson...

  6. The only books on here I've managed to read are The Raven King, ACOMAF, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and Illuminae. I'll be reading up EoS VERY SOON (I'm terrified and excited) and I really need to hurry and catch up to the Mistborn books (I've still only read the first book. I'm a horrible bookworm haha)

  7. A Court of Mist and Fury- Yas!!! I have a major urge to reread this book (and I just read it over Thanks Giving in October). One of my top reads of the year for sure. I think I need to reread The Raven King to fully appreciate it. I think I read it to fast. I need to get Hitchhiker's Guide, particularly the audiobook, I don't know what I am waiting for.

    Great list!!

  8. I bet the Hitchhiker's Guide would be awesome on audio! :)

Check out my TTT and my current giveaway.

  9. Great list! I’m way overdue for rereading Harry Potter. I’ll have to make that a priority in 2017.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  10. Such great hits, Micheline! I loved Illuminae last year. I read Gemina this year and while I did really like it, I liked Illuminae more. :D I will be binge-reading the Raven Cycle series hopefully in the near future!

    Wonderful list, Micheline. =)

Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!

  11. I adore you list and you know I love seeing ACOMAF and Empire of Storms up there. You know those are my top two reads of the year lol. And yay for Harry Potter! I'm re-reading those now and they are just as amazing as always.

  12. Great list! I was so glad to have read Mistborn: Secret History this year as well. It changed my whole outlook of the ending to Hero of Ages. I don't feel so bad over it anymore :)

  13. Hehe, I ended up reading quite a few blue/gray books this year, too! Obviously, I 1000% agree with The Raven King! ACoMaF was also a 2016 favorite of mine, for sure, and EoS, too, even though I also had a few quibbles with it. With just those 3 books alone, how did we get through this year with our sanity intact, especially with how EoS ended?! XD

  14. I agree that Illuminae wasn't perfect, but the format really worked. :)

Ahh, I will never get tired of re-reading HP. <3

  15. Yay for acomaf! It was my top book of the year.
I really need to start the Mistborn series

I LOVE comments & do my best to return every one a.s.a.p. ♥
