Top Ten Books/T.V. Shows To Get You in the Halloween Mood

*If you're kind of a scaredy-cat like me*

It's the Great Pumpkin Charley Brown - Ah! Nostalgia - I live for it. All of the Peanuts Holiday specials make me happy but you can never go wrong with Halloween and the Great Pumpkin!

The Darkest Powers Trilogy - Every time I give this trilogy a shout out, I'm reminded how much I loved it. Ghosts, vampires, magic, werewolves, creepy asylums, experiments on teens...this has it all.

Treehouse of Horror - Nothing beats The Simpsons (especially seasons 1-12) and Halloween wouldn't be complete without the corresponding Treehouse of Horror episodes.

Wolves of Mercy Falls - This trilogy isn't super scary but it's deliciously atmospheric and that fits with Halloween in my book!  Plus: werewolves that are affected by weather and the change of seasons. Yes!

Batman: The Animated Series - To me, Batman and Halloween go hand in hand. Costumes. Darkness. Creepy clowns, scarecrows and an unholy assortment of freaks in masks. The movies work but the animated series is deliciously dark and creepy so it gets my vote.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone - Again this one is here largely due to the dark atmosphere. Oh and there's tons and tons of monsters, violence, wars and death.  If that's not Halloween, what is?

Supernatural - Supernatural should be THE show to represent Halloween, am I right?  Ghosts, hauntings, demons, witches, vengeful spirits, murders, vampires, werewolves and Lucifer himself. I actually just embarked on a series rewatch and the timing is perfection!

The Old Kingdom - When a series centers around necromancy, death and the spirit world, you can't help but associate it with this time of year.  The Old Kingdom is deliciously dark and wholly atmospheric - it just screams 'Halloween'.

Doctor Who - There are some truly dark, disturbing and downright creepy episodes of Doctor Who. The Empty Child, Blink, Silence in the Library, Midnight, Water on Mars, Night Terrors and Listen come to mind... *shudder*

Harry Potter - You had to know that this was coming right? Magic, Witches, Wizards, Ghosts, Monsters, DEATH, Halloween murders...the list goes on. Harry Potter is my perfect Halloween go-to.

What are your favorite books and shows to get into the Halloween mood?
This is my favorite time of year so I'd love the recs :)

  1. I love all the PEanuts shows too and Great Pumpkin is awesome. I love that opening scene when Lucy and Linus go to get a pumpkin, lol And Shiver has an amazing cover. I like the idea of werewolves affected by the seasons. And I never realized that Dr. Who had a creepy side...

  10. I don't watch Doctor Who, but one time I caught it on the TV at my brother's place when he and his roommate were watching - I think it was Blink. Is that the one with the weeping angels? Because if it is, then hell yah that one was creepy!!! :D
