Top Ten Tuesday #54

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish which features a variety of bookish top ten lists!

Top Ten Most Memorable Villains of All Time

Sauron (Lord of the Rings)

I honestly can't even look at that gif without getting seriously creeped out. When I get to this scene in the movie, I have to avert my eyes. Something about a formless villain, that still retains so much power is deeply unsettling to me.

The Joker (Batman)

It doesn't matter what incarnation we're talking about: the Joker is memorable. I first 'met' him through Batman: The Animated Series (a mature and surprisingly dark series, animated or not) and every single time he showed up, I'd replay his eerie moments in my head for weeks afterwards.

Magneto (X-Men)

I'm not going to lie: I love Magneto. I think he could get me to join his Brotherhood without much effort. Despite that, the guy is definitely unhinged and scary AF when he wants to be. Which is almost always.  I love me some intense men though, what can I say?

Khan (Star Trek)

Speaking of intense^^ I may have gotten into Star Trek late in the game, but you'd have to be living under a rock never to have heard of Khan.  And in the new film franchise he certainly is a force to be reckoned with.

Voldemort (Harry Potter)

I know my gif here is of movie Voldemort, and yes I think he's memorable too but it's book Voldemort that scares the bejeezus out of me. Those red slitted eyes, the hands like giant white spiders, and that voice. *shudders*

The Master (Doctor Who)

The Master might be crazy but he sure is entertaining - to watch I mean...I wouldn't want to face him or his wrath. Which makes him the perfect combination of terrifying and magnetic...and let's face it: that's what all the best villains are!

Moriarty (Sherlock)

Aaand, speaking of crazy^^ Moriarty is all kinds of crazy but I love him for it. Again, I'd never want to be in his path but watching from a safe distance is so.much.fun! Moriarty does brilliant, wicked dangerous perfectly.

Lucifer (Supernatural)

If you would have told me that Lucifer would have ended up being one of my favorite characters on Supernatural, I wouldn't have believed you...but here we are. I hated when he was torturing my Sammy but there's no denying that he's a charismatic fallen angel.

The Destroyer (Old Kingdom)

Again we have a villain with unimaginable evil force with no physical body. *cringe* The Destroyer is aptly named too because his deepest desire is to lay the world to ruins!  I know the image here might not be scary but when you witness his power, you'll totally get it!

Erawan (Throne of Glass)

Once more, this image might not do the Valg King justice but he'd give Sauron a run for his money...let's leave it at that. I'll likely have nightmares about him for years...gods help us when the final Throne of Glass novel comes out O.O

Did I forget any truly memorable villains?

  5. Oooo you've got some great ones on this list Micheline! The Joker is one of my all-time favorite villains, and Heath Ledger will always be the most outstanding version of him for me. He was such a great combination of hilarious and horrifying:)

  7. Dude, no doubt about Sauron. There's something about how he's formless and you just see his Eye- like he's almost allpowerful. Scary! And The Joker- he's creepy in a good way, just such a psycho you gotta love him! Magneto too- love him in the comics and Fassbender does a great job w/ him.

  9. Magneto's been one of my favorite villains since I was a kid - and of course it didn't hurt when Michael Fassbender was cast in X-Men First Class :P Isn't it great when we have three dimensional villains that we love to hate!

  10. Awesome choices, as always! I think all of these would have made my list if I'd branched outside of YA. Especially The Joker, because he's delightfully psychopathic and one of the greatest and most enigmatic villains of all time. Lucifer is also kind of hysterical--in a murderous way. Maybe I just like my villains with a black sense of humor.

  12. It wouldn't take much for Magneto to convince me to join him, either, especially when it's Michael Fassbender's dreamy voice doing the talking. XD Voldemort is definitely on my list of all-time scariest villains, and Erawen is certainly working his way onto it!
