Favorite Ships in Harry Potter

I think couple pairings often get overlooked in Harry Potter (by me anyway), probably due to the fact that there is SO MANY things to get excited about in the series and really, the romances take a back seat to action, character development, plot and emotional destruction.  That being said, I wanted to highlight my favorite ships, whether they are friendships or shippy ships (or both) so here we go:

Favorite Ships in Harry Potter
*All photos can be found here with source*

Harry + Ginny
Yes. Harry and Ginny are my absolute favorite pairing in the series. Book Ginny is perfect for Harry and the two of them finally hooking up was the most I swooned in the entire series. I could TOTALLY go for a steamy glimpse into their stolen moments at Hogwarts...and after.

Ron + Hermione
I very much doubt that any reader dislikes Ron and Hermione together. I know that there are some die hard Harry/Hermione shippers but I always felt like Ron made Hermione more fun and Hermione made Ron think...and to me that's perfect.

Sirius + Lupin (WolfStar)
I ship Remus and Sirius for their epic bromance and how they're reunited 13 years later and all they have left is each other ♥ BUT, I also ship them as WolfStar and would totally be up for them being a couple.

Dumbledore + Grindelwald
Ok so, I know their pairing was a disaster but a part of me will always wish that it could have been different.  Not many people get what it is to be brilliant like the both of them clearly were and it makes me sad that Dumbledore never found anyone else...

Dean + Seamus
I ship these two for their adorable friendship more than anything.  I wouldn't be opposed to them hooking up but mostly, I just love how much fun they seem to have together.

Luna + Neville
Neville and Luna just make me happy. Both outcasts, never quite fitting in until they join Harry and the gang.  Both of them transformed completely by what they fight for and both of them among the kindest hearts ever.  I wish JKR put them together but at least the films gave us a hint at their pairing.

Ginny + Hermione and Harry + Ron
These are purely friendship based^^ I adore Harry and Ron's friendship, faults and all.  Ron gave Harry a family and Harry made Ron grow up.  As for Ginny and Hermione, their friendship was my favorite girl friendship of the series, both of them strong, independent females.  The four of them together make my LIFE.

Lupin + Tonks
As much as I love Remus with Sirius, I do still ship Lupin+Tonks - especially in the books, where their relationship is more developed.  Considering their faith, it means EVERYTHING that they had each other.

Sirius + James
I'm just here for the bromance.  I know that these two together were trouble-makers, but I can't help but want to see them in their prime! Obnoxious? Sure. But also entertaining and magnetic.

Dumbledore + McGonagall
Could there be a more perfect partnership to run Hogwarts.  There is no other time I would have wanted to be a student there more than when those two were at the helm.  Brilliant, gifted, tough but fair.

James and Lily
I actually forgot James and Lily initially but it wasn't intentional.  Thanks to Jaclyn for mentioning it to me and for saying it perfectly: they gave us Harry after all ♥  I know James was a bit of a brat but he came around :)

Arthur + Molly
THE couple that ALL couples should aspire to be.  My love for these two is kind of ridiculous but I can't help it. They make my heart smile ten  miles wide. Enough said.

Did I forget any of YOUR favorite Harry Potter ships?

  1. Ginny and Harry are the it pair IMO. They made such a great couple and Harry was incredibly happy when he won her. Not to mention that there are not many girls that would've been cool with him just going off and quitting school on some crazy kill Voldemort errand. She really 'got' him which made a huge difference. I love Hermione and Ron as well. I feel like they evened each other out nicely. The Weasleys of course were such a great couple. They really were the image of what wizarding parents should be and their marriage was adorable. I loved the nicknames that came up when passwords were a big deal. Lupin and Tonks were a bit of a surprise, but I was completely on board when that came about. It was a time when there should be more love in the story instead of darkness and it made their pairing sweet. I am also a big fan of Lily and James of course because they gave us Harry :D The other friendships and bromances were so important to the story and added to the realism that these other friendships would've been formed.

    1. ME TOO JACLYN!! I didn't swoon for anyone else in the series the way I did for them! She truly did 'get' who Harry is and he 10000% deserved someone like her! Hermione and Ron are fantastic too, they really balance each other out. Molly and Arthur make me ridiculously happy, they're the quintesential perfect couple and I can picture both Harry+Ginny and Ron+Hermione having a married life like them ♥ Oh! I forgot Lily+James!! You're right: they gave us Harry so they deserve their spot here^^ I'll have to add them on :) Thank you!! xx

  2. I think HP universe has some of the best ships there are, whether canon or fanon. I think you've listed all of my favourites here. I wish we could get to see more of Sirius and James at Hogwarts and all the mischief that they got up to. But I would also love to see them after Hogwarts doing stuff for the Order of the Phoenix. I wish things didn't turn so tragic with Dumbledore and Grindelwald and I wish Dumbledore had a chance to influence and change Grindelwald for the better.

I think Molly and Arthur are a quintessential couple and I always enjoyed reading their interaction. The "Mollywobbles" incident never fails to crack me up. I'm sorry that Remus and Tonks had such a short time together and much of it marred by Remus's doubts and war. I also love Harry/Sirius ship as in godson and godfather. As Dumbledore said: "It was cruel that you and Sirius had such a short time together. A brutal ending to what should have been a long and happy relationship." Of course, Dumbledore knows all about brutal endings(((

    1. I think you're right Farida!! Sirius and James just bros-ing together at Hogwarts would have been gold...with Remus of course ♥ Dumbledore and Grindelwald really were so very tragic, it breaks my heart. I wish Dumbledore could have influenced Grindelwald more too!!

Molly and Arthur are THE CUTEST couple in fiction ever! I agree about Lupin and Tonks and YES Harry/Sirius have the best familial relationship of the series!! It's so cruel how little time they had together *sobs*

  3. ARTHUR AND MOLLY!!!! They were the absolute cutest and I couldn't love them more:) I ship so many of these as well, but Arthur and Molly never fail to bring a smile to my face!!!

  4. I agree with you, as much as I love some of the ships in HP, I don't care about them that much with everything going on in the books. But the books don't spend too much time on them either. That being said, I love Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Lupin/Tonks, and Molly/Arthur (I'm so glad you added them!). I also really like Bill/Fleur because of the scene in the hospital wing in HBP. I never really attached to any noncanon ships probably because I read the series all at once. I was always fond of Luna/Neville and I love that they get their moment in the movie, but I'm getting used to the idea of Luna/Rolph now.
As for other types of ships, Rowling wrote some amazing friendships. I love that you added McGonagall and Dumbledore. Their partnership was amazing. They were friends who had complete respect for each other and for their abilities. I love getting to see them in scenes together. And I'm not even going to mention the rest of the friendships because there are too many :)

    1. That's the thing! There are GREAT ships in the series but considering the magic, the plot, the world-building and the characters on their own, the ships end up taking a backseat!

Rowling wrote amazing friendships to be sure, I had to focus on my all-time favorites otherwise this post would have been 5x as long LOL!

  5. I LOVE the beautiful fan art you featured in your post! Now that I think about it, I HP is one of the few series where every ship/couple made perfect sense to me. Arthur and Molly are not only one of my favorite fictional couples, but also my favorite fictional parents EVER. Obviously, I'm a hardcore shipper of Remus and Sirius's bromance, LOL. That moment in the PoA movie when they embrace after all those years apart gets me right in the heart every. Single. Time. I would've loved them just as much as a couple, too! ♥

    1. And I love you for mentioning it so that I clued in that I hadn't liked to the source^^ I fixed it ;) You're right too, the shipping was done perfectly throughout!

Molly and Arthur are definitely my favorite parental unit OF LIFE! Remus and Sirius might just have the best bromance EVER. I know THAT hug makes me emotional too ♥ I would have had NO problem shipping them romantically either ;)

  6. Um can I just give ALL MY YES to Neville and Luna?? They are my absolute favorite of all time (I didn't much care for Hermione and Ron, to be honest)! When it was announced that there would be more books/movies/plays/whatever, part of me really hoped we might get more info on this couple because they are just so freaking perfect! Oh well. :/ Great post!

    1. Neville and Luna are the cutest! I'm so happy they got their little moment in the films, I always hoped they'd end up together :D

  7. These are all great! I do love Ginny and Harry, like so much. And the bromances in this series are unreal. I think they're all great, especially Dean and Seamus. I also love Fred and George's relationship. I know they're siblings, but that doesn't automatically make them great friends. I love that they got on well and were essentially the Sirius and James of their time. troublemakers. I do really like the idea of Neville and Luna, even if they don't end up together. I think they compliment each other very well. They both deserve to be with someone who is equally kind and generous as they are. I love this post! :D

    1. Ginny and Harry will forever be my OTP. Honestly though, I love all the ships, friendships and bromances in the series! You're so right: I could have added Fred and George! Just cause they're related didn't guarantee that they'd be best friends as well! And well Neville and Luna just fit, I don't mind that they didn't end up together in the books but I do like that the films hinted that they might ;) Thank you^^

  8. Neville and Luna are the sweetest. Do they actually end up together, though? I was never quite clear on that point... I'll just pretend they do. :)

And yeah, Dumbledore and Gridelwald are one of those tragic stories... Such a shame, really, imagine what they could have achieved together if their youth wasn't what it was!

And Arthur and Molly are the best. Probably my favourite couple in the series! Their relationship is something to aspire to in married life, I think. :)

    1. They are Kaja^^ No actually, they don't. In the books Luna marries Rolf Scamander, who is actually the god son of Newt Scamander :D In the movies though, they hint that Luna and Neville could hook up!

Dumbledore and Grindelwald break my heart. They could have been such a powerful team but the search for power took over :(

Arthur and Molly ARE THE BEST. I agree: it's what all committed couples should strive to have in their relationship ♥

  9. Awwwww. I love this post. Also, even though I always knew the outcome, I kinda shipped Snape and Lily. Kinda. And I may have had some Harry/Draco shipping moments in the past too.

Hermione and Ron were my favorite ship though. All time favorite.

    1. LOL! A lot of people shipped Harry and Draco. I could probably be one of them if we're talking about the movies, but in the books, Draco is too much of a git.

Hermione and Ron are probably the most popular ship in the series, so you're not alone there!

  10. Ooh, I'll probably have to reserve judgement until I finish DH, but I do love Harry + Ginny, Ron + Hermione, and Tonks + Lupin. Tonks + Lupin especially because I didn't see it coming; it was such a great touch, right when everything seemed so hopeless at the end of HBP, to introduce that romance.^_^

    1. You'll have to let me know your final thoughts when you finish DH! Love all of the ones you mentioned there^^
