Waiting on Wednesday *127*

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine in which we spotlight an upcoming book release we're especially looking forward to!

Here's my pick this week:

Goldenhand by Garth Nix
Abhorsen #5
Expected Publication: October 11th 2016 by Harper Collins

Lirael is no longer a shy Second Assistant Librarian. She is the Abhorsen-in-Waiting, with Dead creatures to battle and Free Magic entities to bind. She’s also a Remembrancer, wielder of the Dark Mirror. Lirael lost one of her hands in the binding of Orannis, but now she has a new hand, one of gilded steel and Charter Magic.

When Lirael finds Nicholas Sayre lying unconscious after being attacked by a hideous Free Magic creature, she uses her powers to save him. But Nicholas is deeply tainted with Free Magic. Fearing it will escape the Charter mark that seals it within his flesh and bones, Lirael seeks help for Nick at her childhood home, the Clayr’s Glacier.

But even as Lirael and Nick return to the Clayr, a young woman named Ferin from the distant North braves the elements and many enemies in a desperate attempt to deliver a message to Lirael from her long-dead mother, Arielle. Ferin brings a dire warning about the Witch with No Face. But who is the Witch, and what is she planning?

Once more a great danger threatens the Old Kingdom, and it must be forestalled not only in the living world, but also in the cold, remorseless river of Death.

Goldenhand is the long-awaited fifth installment of Garth Nix’s New York Times bestselling Old Kingdom series.
THIS IS NOT A DRILL. The fifth Old Kingdom book has a title and a cover!!  Admittedly, I only discovered the title one or two weeks prior, so imagine my surprise when I stumbled on this pretty late last week. Obviously, I need to stop trying to drag out the series and read Clariel and the Across the Wall collection - especially The Creature in the Case story - since Goldenhand is supposed to take place after the events of that one. I can not wait to be reunited with my beloved Lirael and Nicholas for yet another adventure ♥ I read about so many fans that have been waiting for Goldenhand since Abhorsen came out in 2003 and honestly? I would have died waiting that long!  October already seems like a lifetime away O.O

Where are my Old Kingdom fans at?
Are you excited about this one??

  3. I have always wanted to start this series but always assumed it was finished. Is this the book with the dog in it? Maybe I am confused. The way my morning is going, it is quite possible. Anyway, glad there is a new book for those who love the series and I guess it's just one more for me to add to the wishlist.

  7. I've probably mentioned this before, but I still have never read Garth Nix - I know I know I should be ashamed! I doubt I can jump into this since it's the 5th book, but I have always wanted to check out this series :)

  9. I've never read these but I have to say I'm intrigued. It sounds like fantasy a little different than the usual stuff, which is nice. I'll have to look at these. Nice cover too.

  10. Heh, omg there is no way I could have waited for this since 2003! That's pretty crazy. Having to wait that long... I hope none of the fans end up let down by something so long awaited! But my impression is that Garth Nix is pretty consistent so hopefully that's the case here. I hope this one is everything you were waiting for and who knows, maybe I could also be caught up on the series by October!!
