Top Ten Tuesday #40

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish which features a variety of bookish top ten lists!

Ten Of My Most Recent 5-Star Reads

This year has been slow on the 5-Star front for me, but I still wanted to share my most recent 5-Star reads with everyone (any excuse to gush right?!)

Ready Player One Granted, I was a bit late to the party with this one, but nonetheless, it became one of my all-time favorite dystopian/sci-fi reads. I highly recommend the audio version, narrated by Wil Wheaton!

Abhorsen - The intense conclusion to The Old Kingdom trilogy delivered in every single way.  Nothing beats when a favorite series ends on a high note! I seriously cannot say enough positive things about this series.

Queen of Shadows - Naturally, if there was a ToG book released, it made it onto this list. Every single book in this series has been a game-changer.  I need Empire of Storms like air.

Lirael - Despite a change in the main character for the second book in the series, Lirael still managed to become a favorite of mine. I grew to love the new MC almost as much as my beloved Sabriel.

Uprooted - A stand-alone fantasy with a unique magical system where the villain is an evil forest?! There literally isn't another book like this one, which is what made it so great!

A Darker Shade Of Magic - Parallel worlds, alternate Londons with unique magical properties, an enchanted coat which the author herself liked to a wearable Room of Requirement?! What's not to love? Oh and there's a female pirate ;)

Sabriel - I had to include every installment in Garth Nix's trilogy for two reasons: 1. Every.single.installment became an all-time favorite of mine. And 2. If I hadn't done so, I didn't have any other 5-star reads to share!   My love for Sabriel as a character and as a book knows no bounds. ♥

A Monster Calls - Despite being outside of my usual genre, this book brought on a massive array of feels that do.no.let.go. My advice while reading this book? Have tissues close by.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue - Naturally the newest book from The Raven Cycle had to be on this list. The wait for The Raven King has been long and challenging, but we're almost there guys! *heavy breathing*

Every Breath - Some of you might be surprised that a straight up contemporary made the cut, but: it's a mystery featuring a teenaged Sherlock and a female Watson! AND a seriously swoon-worthy romance :D

Have you read any of these^^ share your thoughts with me!

  1. QUEEN OF SHADOWS MICHELINE!!!! I'm both dying to read and terrified to do so, which is why I've been putting it off. Sarah J. Maas is brutal in the feels department, so I'm scared my heart is going to be bleeding after this book. I need to just dive in though, I know I won't be able to put it down once I do!

  2. I have Blue Lily, Lily Blue, A Darker Shade of Magic, and Sabriel on my TBR pile, which I am hoping to get around to soon. I'll have to look into some of these other books aside from Ready Player One (that I have read, too).

  6. Haha, so many of these correspond to what my answers would have been for this week's TTT topic! :) I'd add Rainbow Rowell's books to the list <3
I still haven't read The Raven Cycle or the Nix books, so I should probably remedy that soon!

  7. Oh boy, A Monster Calls is one of my all time favourite books. Such an amazing story! I am about to start the Dream Thieves (as soon as I have a minute to sit down and dig in), and I am eager to continue with the series. I have seen you gushing about the the Garth Nix's trilogy for a little while now, and I am super duper curious!

    Great list!

  9. It's been a while since I gave out 5 stars, too, but I expect that to change very soon with both A Gathering of Shadows and THE RAVEN KING. I anticipate loving TRK with every atom of my being, even if it shatters my heart into a billion pieces- I keep telling myself, Gansey will be OK, Gansey will be OK .... XD

  14. So many awesome books on your list, these are ones I have either loved myself or am desperate to read. I am definitely going to be adding some of these to my already endless TBR, so thanks for the awesome recommendations!!! I LOVED Queen of Shadows, even if it did totally break my heart at times. I am so desperate to read A Monster Calls, although also scared as I am sure it will make me cry... A LOT :) Here's my most recent five star reads, if you want to check them out :)

  18. Sorry to hear that you haven't had a ton of successful 5 Star reads recently... But I hope it pleases you to hear that I have read quite of few of your recommendations recently - The Raven Cycle and Illuminae - and loved the pants off of them!! Also, I have just requested Ready Player One from my library to read soon. Although gah, I do really want to do the audiobook too! And of course the rest of these are also on my TBR.
