Top Ten Tuesday #39

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish which features a variety of bookish top ten lists!

Ten Books I Really Love But Feel Like I Haven't Talked About Enough/In A While

Obviously, this week I'm NOT going to be gushing about the usual suspects I'm constantly fangirling about today. It's time for other beloved books/series to get their moment in the spotlight:

Liesl & Po - This is one of my all-time favorite middle-grade books.  It's a quick read and it's surprisingly poignant. I highly recommend it to any and all MG readers!

A Monster Calls - This is different from what I usually gravitate towards, but it came highly recommended by the friend who gifted it to me.  LOTS of feels to be had and an incredibly memorable read!

Daughter of Smoke & Bone - My earliest followers will remember my gushing about this series, but it's been a while now. Gorgeous prose and a fascinating magical world! WIN. Also: lots of feels!

A Darker Shade of Magic - Schwab can basically do no wrong and we're talking about parallel magical Londons here^^ Oh and a seriously awesome magic coat!

The Warriors Series - Often dismissed as a children's series, this features magical cats living in tribes.  There's fighting, romance, war and more death than I can even describe. Animal lovers should definitely check this series out!

The Fever Series - I was hesitant going into this series and indeed I had issues with the first 2 books but I was still hooked - if that makes sense? By the time I read the 3rd book, I was hopelessly addicted and marathoned the rest of the series in a mess of swooning and feels!

The Hunger Games - RIGHT?! We all gushed about this when it came out but it bears repeating: this series is phenomenal. To this day it's still the best dystopian series I've ever read.

Every Breath - Fans of Sherlock Holmes and/or contemporary romances NEED this book in their life! I have yet to finish the series but it's coming up SOON. ALL the love for this one ♥

Anne of Green Gables - My childhood favorite!  I adored this series growing up, granted I got less invested as the series went on. I want to reread it in it's entirety soon to see if the adult me would get on better with adult Anne.

Ready Player One - A recent favorite of mine since I only read it at the end of 2015 but this book BLEW ME AWAY.  If you like dystopians and/or sci-fi, this book is for you!!

Have you read any of these? Let me know how you made out with them!

  1. Being hooked with Moning's series definitely makes sense, I dislike some aspects of it but am very interested in the story, it's a perfect series to binge on. I am now stuck at the end of Book 3 (I disliked the ending with the invasion of Dublin and with what those creepy fae princes did ... so I made a bit of a pause but I'm definitely continuing with the series).

And I agree with you on Schwab, Marney and Taylor - they're brilliant! :)

I didn't read Anne of Green Gables until I was an adult (I checked and the first translation has appeared around 2000, when I was probably already reading other, older stuff). I liked it a lot, though! I get why it's a classic.

  2. Ready Player One was such a fantastic read, and yay for Anne of Green Gables (though admittedly I didn't actually get around to reading it in its entirety until last year *bad Canadian* :3 ) And ahhh! I still have yet to get around to anything by V.E. Schwab, lol xD Great list Micheline! :)

  3. So agree on THG; that series is amazing. And there are so many books here I still need to read, especially Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I own the entire series and really just need to make some time for it. Love your list!

  4. I almost put Daughter of Smoke and Bone on my list. It definitely needs more attention these days. I still need to read Ready Player One. I loved Armada, so I know I'll like it. Great choices!

  5. Agreed - Schwab can do no wrong!! :)

    Check out my TTT.

  6. Victoria is my life but I feel like I talk about her ALL the damn time. I have yet to read all of these except Hunger Games of course which is def one I should have put on my list!! I think I read it like 3 times in a row when i first got it since i had all 3 books! Amazeballs! Great list though.

  7. This is such a fun topic, I wish I had done this since I think I could have filled a list up easily. Especially with some of my older, beloved all time favorite reads! Ready Player One would definitely make it on my top ten too, feels like I haven't had a chance to rave about that one in a while, lol! :D

  8. Nice picks for this week! I haven't read any of the books on your list... I'll have to expand my reading horizons!!

Here's a link to my TTT for this week:

  9. I've looked at the Warriors series a few times and wondered about it- there are quite a few aren't there and they do sound kinda fun. Plus I saw they have a map- how cool is that? Cat clans and a map- I may have to try these!

  10. I loved Anne of Green Gables and Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I just finished ADSOM and really enjoyed that too. Next up, I'd like to read A Monster Calls because I've got a copy of it sitting on my shelf.

  11. Oh, The Hunger Games! It's probably been about 5 years since I read it, and I have happy memories of talking about it with Ally for hours and hours. ADSoM is the only Schwab book I've read so far, but it made her an instant favorite author of mine. Her storytelling is phenomenal, and I can't wait to dive into AGoS! :D

  12. I really want to read A Monster Calls and Ready Player One! I also really enjoyed Daughter of Smoke and Bone! Great list :D

    Here are my Top Ten!

  13. Ahhh all the love for ADSOM and Ready Player One! Such great books. <3

  14. I need to read A Darker Shade of Magic! It's been on my list for a while now! I'm going to see if my library has it first before i buy it!
Did you see the preorder for the next book in the series? It has some amazing giveaway art!

  15. I loved The Hunger Games, though I felt that Mockingjay was a little bit of a disappointment after the first two books were so good. I felt it was just okay. I've heard great things about Daughter of Smoke and Bone, A Darker Shade of Magic and Ready Player One, but I haven't tried any of them yet. I did read the Fever series, but I just thought it was okay. I didn't like it as much as most people. I didn't like Mac. I thought it portrayed southern girls as stupid debutantes, especially in the beginning. I know I'm in the minority here.

  16. THE FEVER SERIES!!!!! That series is like crack, once you have a taste you can't stop yourself from craving more. Barrrroooooonnnnnssssss. I'm feeling a re-read coming on Micheline!

  17. I REALLY want to read Ellie Marney's series! I've heard such great things about it! I also still need to read ADSOM. But I heard AGOS had a crazy cliffhanger so I wasn't sure if I should wait. LOL. And yes! Love the Fever series! I'm not caught up on the newer books, but I do want to read them!

  18. ahhh I feel like I could've put 90% of your list on mine too. XD SO MUCH LOVE FOR THESE BOOKS! I always forget how incredibly perfect A Monster Calls is. *hugs it* It honestly nearly made me CRY and I thought it was just going to be a nice little kids book. PFFFFT. It was perfection and I can't wait for the movie!! AND ALSO OMG I LOVE EVERY BREATH. That series is. so. good. Best Sherlock retelling of them all definitely. :')

  19. I've haven't read a lot of these myself. A Monster Calls surprised me so much! I enjoyed it, but I don't think I could rave about it like everyone else can. It was heart-breaking and beautifully written though. Oh, and Every Player One is at the top of my TBR - it has been recommended to me SO MUCH lately.

I LOVE comments & do my best to return every one a.s.a.p. ♥
