Harry Potter Moment #133

Harry Potter Moment of the Week

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a  meme hosted by Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts  and Me @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote, object from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!  How to join up &  upcoming topics here.

Hello everyone and happy Thursday!  I hope everyone's week is going brilliantly :) Personally, today is my birthday and I can think of no better way to celebrate than to chat about my favorite series with my favorite bookish people :)

Oh and before we get going on this week's topic: today is also Remus Lupin's Birthday - one of my absolute favorite characters in the series. Awesome. Happy Birthday Lupin ♥

Would you want to be a Parseltongue? Why/why not?

Truth be told, I always thought that it was really cool that Harry had inherited the ability to speak to snakes. As an animal lover, I'd love to be able to communicate with them somehow! Even though Parseltongue can seem like an inherently dark ability, it sure as hell came in useful to Harry throughout the series. I can understand why JKR chose to have that particular ability leave him once the unintentional Horcrux had been removed - and it's not like he would have needed it anymore in any case - but I would have been ok with Harry having that gift for the rest of his life.  Obviously, it's not cool if you're going to use it to sic Basilisks on your fellow school mates, but I could see it coming in handy...like, if you want to tell threatening snakes to go away - or, you know, have a nice chat with the cute little harmless variety.

  1. THERE IS NOTHING CUTE ABOUT THAT TINY SNAKE MICHELINE! NOTHING! *shudders* No to snakes. Though I wouldn't mind being able to talk to them, then I could tell them, politely, to please keep a healthy distance from me:)

    1. Ahahahahaha Oh man, you made me LOL Jenny! I now realize that I *might* be in the minority here^^ But that's how I see it too: even if you hate/fear snakes, talking to them would come in handy because you could ask them nicely to leave :D

  2. Heh, HPMotW, Moony's Birthday, and ToG #5 title reveal all on the same day! Happy birthday to you :D

I vote yes. Snakes would not be my number one animal of choice to be able to communicate with, but I've always wished I could understand what other animals were thinking...

    1. Right?! The day was pretty much perfection ♥

Me neither, I'd rather communicate with Cats (obviously) or birds, fish...heck ALL the animals would be the best! But I feel the same way: I've always wanted to be able to understand animal's thought processes...

  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MICHELINE! ♥♥♥ And Happy ToG #5 Title Unveiling Day, lolol! Empire of Storms is such a badass title, but then I'd expect nothing less where our beloved fire-breathing bitch queen is involved. XD

    1. LOL! Thank you so much my friend ♥♥♥ Empire of Storms is FIERCE and the scope seems to have widened from just Celaena/Aelin here - I wonder if the title will reflect the book's focus as well? Hmmm... :D

  4. Darn! I'm a day late, but I came by to wish you a belated happy birthday anyway. Hope you had a fantastic day!

Oh, and I definitely agree with you about talking to snakes - that would make them seem a lot less threatening anyway, right?

    1. Aww, no worries! Thank you Nicole :)

I think it would too - we're just scared of the way they look and move around but if we could understand them and communicate back, they'd seem friendlier I think (I hope!)

  5. I agree. I think it would definitely help someone not be as afraid as they might would when confronted with a snake that meant no harm. Then, if they did want to hurt you, like you said you could try to talk them out of it. I would want the ability for sure!

    1. EXACTLY! If you could be sure it wasn't threatening, it would make them seem less scary for me anyway! And if they did have bad intentions, well at least you could try talking your way out of it LOL!

  6. Totally agree!! (and I think that little snake is pretty cute!) As long as you're not creating a little snake-army, it's all good.
