Harry Potter Moment #98

Harry Potter Moment of the Week

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a  meme hosted by Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts  and Me @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote, object from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!  How to join up &  upcoming topics here.

Favorite Lupin Moment

Lupin is certainly getting his fair share of attention over here, as I've already gushed all about him in my 2nd Harry Potter Month post, but I'm going to try and keep things fresh by not talking about the same moments (I hope...)

Alright, so as you all know by now, Lupin is a favorite character of mine, which means that narrowing down one single moment of his was virtually impossible.  From the moment we meet him, he's all kinds of awesome. First he saves Harry and the trio on the train from the Dementor! Then there's just the small detail of him being THE BEST DADA teacher Hogwarts has ever known! Let's face it, that Riddikulus class was excellent XD I have no words for how much I adore the role he played in Harry's life, not to mention his epic bromance with Sirius - both of which came to a head at The Ministry of Magic in OotP, when he holds Harry back when Sirius falls through the veil *sob*

Ahem. *sniff*  So, out of all of those amazing moments, which one is my favorite? Well since I fear the Dementors as much as Harry himself, I have to go with:

Teaching Harry the Expecto Patronum Spell

This spell saved Harry's life on more than one occasion, and though he struggled with it - both at the beginning and in the end - he mastered a spell way beyond his years and as much as I adore the boy, I doubt he would have done so, so quickly, if it wasn't for my beloved Lupin. ♥

  1. I love this moment very much and I think that a lot of people will choose it as their favourite, that's why for my selection I decided to go with the one I thought might be overlooked))

  2. Ahhh, LOVE this moment so much! ❤ Lupin was so patient with Harry and so encouraging, and as much as I love the class with the boggart, I think this was the most important lesson he ever taught Harry. Fantastic pick, Micheline! :D

  3. I think you're definitely right that Harry wouldn't have learnt the spell so quickly without Lupin's help. The other great thing about this moment is the knock on effect it has - it's significant not only for Prisoner of Azkaban, but throughout the series, and for Dumbledore's Army - all because Harry said he wanted to fight the Dementors and Lupin gave him a chance to try, instead of insisting it was too difficult.

  4. I was wondering if it would be hard for you to choose a favorite Lupin moment. This is such a great moment. I completely agree the only reason Harry was able to master something so far above his level was because Lupin was there, he was patient and encouraging. He's such a wonderful character!

  5. I also had a hard time deciding on one Lupin moment because he is such a great character and every scene he has been in is great! I agree that this scene is really great because not only does Lupin teacher Harry a lifesaving spell (that does end up saving his and many others lives) it also was one of the first time we see Harry being great at a magical spell. Yes, he was great at Quidditch and was very brave and clever, but before this we never see him being great at magic. It introduces us to the idea that even though Hermione is the best witch of her age, Harry is still a great wizard =D

  6. I don't think there is any other teacher Harry would have felt comfortable asking for help with the dementors. Lupin is so approachable and encouraging. I agree, Harry probably wouldn't have been able to pick up the spell so quickly without his help. I like to think that part of the reason Lupin agreed to help him with such an advanced spell is because James managed to become an animagus. He knew there was the possibility that Harry could do it if he put his mind to it.

  7. Gosh, I love Lupin, too - in the book and in the movies. Harry's so lucky that he has such an amazing mentor to teach him and help him find this path. Just sad about what ultimately happened to him huhu >_<

  8. Such a fantastic moment! I just love how important the Patronuses ended up being to the story in general. It's such a special thing to create one...making this extension of yourself that is a shield for you in the form of an animal. I feel like I would become attached to mine in a way as weird as that sounds. I am so glad Harry had Lupin there to teach him how to protect himself from the dementors.

  9. This is such a great moment! It's one of the reasons I love Lupin so dearly. Think of all the things that would have happened had Harry not been able to produce a patronus. But more than that, Lupin helped Harry really get past his deepest fears and how many teachers exist that can actually do that?
