Announcing: Harry Potter Month!

Last July, the lovely Faith over at GeekyZooGirl hosted the first ever Harry Potter Month and since everyone had such a blast participating, we pretty much begged her to bring it back this year.  The only difference this year is that Faith invited me to co-host the event along with her - and of course, I accepted! :)

What is Harry Potter Month?

So for those of you who didn't participate last year, or in case you need a reminder, Harry Potter Month is a month long celebration of all things Harry Potter.  It's held in July to coincide with Harry's birthday on July 31st and there are two main ways to participate:

  1. Harry Potter related blog posts throughout the month of July.
  2. Participating in the House Cup, earning points for your house and trying to win the Cup.
You can participate in both of those ways, or pick the one you'd prefer to get into.  There is no minimum participation required, so you can post as little or as much as you'd like!

As far as post content, well you can post about pretty much anything, as long as it involves the Harry Potter Fandom in some way. Here are some examples:

  • Reviews for the books or films.
  • Comparisons between the books and films.
  • Favorites lists - characters, quotes, scenes or ships.
  • Harry Potter Moment of the Week posts will also count here, so keep those posts coming and/or feel free to join up! :)
  • Inspired by Harry Potter: fashion, make-up, tattoos, nail art.
  • 'If you liked Harry Potter you might like'... recommendation posts involving books, shows, etc.
  • Fanfic: sharing your favorites, or ones you've written yourself
  • Discussion posts, like why you love the series, how it changed your life or whatever.
  • Harry Potter crafts: art, wallpapers, recipes, drinks, etc...
  • Harry Potter parties: games, décor, events.
How does the House Cup fit into all of this?

You choose your Hogwarts House and from there, any post you share earns your house points. You can also earn points by rereading the books, rewatching the movies and commenting on other Harry Potter month posts on other participating blogs. If you craft any HP crafts or even if you play on Pottermore, you'll earn points! We'll have the complete list of tasks and points up on July 1st and I can tell you that the entire thing was a blast to participate in last year and we all had a lot of fun competing for the House Cup!

How to get involved:

If you're already sold on the idea and want to participate, you can add yourself to the Harry Potter Spreadsheet! And if you're not sure, well there's still time. You have a month to think about it!

We're not looking for anyone to send us their post ideas or schedules right now though and don't forget that there is NO minimum involvement, so if life gets busy come July we'll totally understand. It happens! If you do decided on any posts or dates to put up posts between now and July 1st, feel free to add them to the schedule workbook of the HP Month Spreadsheet. On June 30th, Faith and I will be posting a schedule for a month based on your choices. If you'd rather wait till July and see what happens, that's totally fine too.

We're also open to having readalong or watchalongs depending on interest, so if you're up for that, or even if you'd like to host a readalong or watchalong of your own, let me or Faith know so we can start planning. And if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, feel free to get in touch with us at any time :)

We hope to see all of you Potterheads in July!

    2. I just sat and tried to work out whether re-reading all 7 in July would be feasible.... It works out as an average of 115 pages per day, so possible...

    1. WooHoo! Glad to have you aboard Kaja! Last year we didn't do a readalong at all, we just focused on putting up HP-related posts and spreading the love, but the readalong seems to be getting a positive reception this time around. It's exciting :D

    1. Our HPMotW posts are going to count, so even if you don't have time for anything more, it'll help your house get points with those and/or when you comment on other people's posts! And I dig the idea of playing the HP Lego game for...research purposes ;D HAHAHA

  9. Woah, you somehow managed to post this in the future on June 15?? At least that's what the date heading for me reads. You must be a witch to have accomplished that!

And yeaaah, SO cool that you'll be hosting this! It's perfect, and really any excuse to post something HP-centric... I'll have to participate, if only to represent the always under-represented 'Puffs! :)

    1. LOL! I have a TARDIS, didn't you know?! ;) And of course, I'm also a witch! Nah, it's the only way to make a sticky post on Blogger, putting the date in the future.

YES^^ we need more 'Puffs to participate for sure! Make 'em proud Aylee :D

    2. A sticky post, eh? I never knew! I prefer the TARDIS idea though.

    3. Perfect^^ Yup, I totally have a TARDIS and as a witch, I have a Time-Turner too, so it was easy for me to travel through time and post in the future! Muahahahah XD

  10. This sounds so fun!! I haven't re-read the whole HP series in years, I read books 1-3 last year, but that wasn't the whole series so I'm not counting it :P. I can't wait to do this, not only for the re-reading but also for the House Cup. I will fight for the Hufflepuffs =D!!

    1. I don't know if my schedule will allow for a reread, but our HPMotW posts count as participation, as does commenting on Potter-posts! Plus I have a few HP discussion posts planned out XD Glad to have you onboard Kimberly^^ x

  11. I won't be participating because I haven't read the series *gasp* I know. It would have been cool to join this as I read it for the first time but uni means I probably wouldn't get to finish the books. So instead I've shared this on tumblr, where there are lots of HP fans who may be interested :)

    1. OMG Bec I forgot you never read the books! Ooooh if it wasn't for Uni, I'd be hassling you to READ THEM (nicely of course) But thank you so much for sharing :D

Micheline, have you seen this little gem of the two guys singing about Harry?

    4. Thank you! I'm planning on writing a HP-related post or posts at some point. Also, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a group reading or re-reading of, say, book six (not too short & not too long)? It's always lots of fun to get together once a week to discuss the next batch of chapters.
