Harry Potter MotW #80

Harry Potter Moment of the Week

Harry Potter Moment of the week is a weekly meme hosted over at Uncorked Thoughts. The idea is to share one favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote, object from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!    For information on how to join up & for upcoming topics, click here.

Best Neville Moment

Dear, sweet Neville.  The poor boy struggled through a good part of his time at Hogwarts.  And when his friends learn what happened to his parents early on, even Harry Potter admitted that Neville's parent's faith was worst than what happened to his own.  There was a lot of pressure put on Neville after that from his family and the poor boy could barely help nearly crumbling under the weight of it all.  That all changed though in his 5th year at Hogwarts when he became a member of Dumbledore's Army. With the help of the best teacher ever, Harry and the rest of the DA, Neville got his confidence up and his spellwork improved tenfold.  All his progress through the series was never more evident than in this moment:

Slicing Nagini's head straight off!

I guess it goes without saying that I prefered this moment in the books, but at least Neville got his moment in the film too!  Bottom line?  He proved he was a true Gryffindor to everyone when the sword appeared to him. And, he made the most of it by destroying a Horcrux with it.  Go Neville!

  1. Neville was such a klutz I felt bad for him but at the same time, he annoyed me a bit. Then he kind of faded to the sidelines a little just to surprise everyone. I loved this part so much, also because of the whole prophecy. It turns out no matter what child Voldy would focus on, they both had a part in his undoing. :)

  2. I absolutely love this scene. I don't think anyone ever expected Neville to the person to kill Voldemort's last horcrux. I loved that this was a spotlight moment for him and that everyone got to witness how awesome I knew Neville could be.

  3. Yeeeesssss!! This was one of my two moments (sort of) that I think are Neville's best. He really comes into his own as an adult, and proves just how strong he is. I love how defiant he is during this moment in the books, and even though it's different in the films, I think they get the emotion across really well. Awesome pick!!

  6. This is truly one of the best moments in the series- seeing Neville take out the formidable Nagini. That snake scared the HELL out of me, and I was only too happy when Neville went all badass on it with the sword!

  7. I was actually worried that they were going to have someone else cut off Nagini's head in the movies. Since Neville 'found' the Room of Requirement and also the gillyweed that were actually Dobby's contributions, I didn't think it was a stretch that they would have one of the three cut off her head instead. I was thrilled that the movie version kept him as the one to accomplish it.

  8. Neville showed such a character development throughout the book and I felt this was the moment we was living towards. It was amazing that he got this moment to shine :)
