Top Ten Tuesday #11

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish which features a variety of bookish top ten lists!

Happy Tuesday All! Wow, I haven't done a TTT post since 2012 o_O  I'd been meaning to get back into them for ages and  well, I've finally had the good sense, organization and time to do so, so here I am!  This week's topic is:

Top Ten Favorite Heroines from Books

1. Celaena fucking Sardothien (Throne of Glass) - Clearly, she deserves top honors.  I am such a huge fangirl of hers.  She stole my heart in Throne of Glass and has basically been kicking it, breaking it and shattering it into a million pieces since then but I love her all the more for it ♥  Queen of Shadows NEEDS to come out already!

2. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) - I think this one goes without saying.  Granger should get an automatic spot on ALL the lists, until the end of time. To infinity and beyond!

3. Vin (Mistborn) - This chick's like Madonna and Rihanna, no last name needed.  When you start off as a homeless street urchin and morph into the toughest, most feared fighter in the realm...and then proceed to save and change the world, feel free to drop your last name too.

4. Blue Sargent (The Raven Cycle) - This lady right here stole my heart from the very first pages of The Raven Boys. She might come off unassuming, but she's wicked cool and I for one want to hang out with her all the time. Of course, it does help that she's friends with Gansey, Ronan, Adam and Noah...and by being her friend, I could get to know the boys too LOL!

5. Ginny Weasley (Harry Potter) - Most under-appreciated heroine in life.  The movies did her a serious disservice too and because of that, generations of movie fans will never understand why she rocks so hard.  This girl is strong, feisty, determined and all kinds of powerful.  She got The Chosen One to respect her and you should too!

6. Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games) - The Girl on Fire.  Hell if she didn't start a freaking revolution all by herself and save the world in the process.  The damage that was done to her in the process breaks my heart...but...she survived and that means I should too *sobs*

7.Syl (The Stormlight Archive) - Are we allowed to pick a heroine that's not quite...human?  I hope so, since I just did.  Syl is like a little fairy. Who is also epically powerful and a weapon in her own right.  Yeah, she kicks ass but it's her role as confidente to my beloved Kaladin that earns her a spot on my list.

8. Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter) - I can never just pick one of the ladies in Harry Potter. Nope, once I mention any one of them, I just have to give props to the others as well. Luna is a role-model I wish the younger me could have known.  She'd have made me feel like I wasn't the only one who was a little strange...nor the only one who could see those Nargles ;)

9. Karou/Madrigal (Daughter of Smoke & Bone) - Another under-appreciated heroine coming through!  A lot of readers failed to fall in love with Karou the way I did, but so many things about her character touched my soul that she'll always hold a special place in my heart.

10. Linh Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles) - Basically, all the heroines of The Lunar Chronicles deserve a place on this list but since I ran out of room, I went with the one we've known the longest.  The one who set this entire series in motion.  Cinder is such an inspirational character and considering my life-long love of Cinderella, I guess I just have a soft-spot for the little cyborg.

  1. I thought about putting Luna on my list too! She's such a rich and wonderful character. And GINNY WEASLEY YES, she's awesome! Your list is spot on!

  2. Haha, I love how many HP characters you have on your list. Rowling writes the best characters, in my opinion. Cinder is such a great pick! I love how sweet and strong she is.

  3. So the ones that I am familiar with are Hermione, Vin, Ginny, Katniss, Luna, and Linh and I have to agree with every one of them being on the list!! Hermione is probably the first I would have thought of. It's a true shame about Ginny and the movie-watchers not understanding her epicness, but I love how you explain it as The Chosen One respecting her so everyone else should too. Vin is a force to be reckoned with as well as Linh. I love every single character in The Lunar Chronicles. Katniss is a heroine who definitely had no intentions of being one, but she just couldn't change who she was. I'm with you on Luna and helping kids embrace their weirdness. Being unique is a gift, and I love her so much for embodying it.

  4. Oh Syl...I love Syl! Fab list. Oh and Celaena, I just love her too! I need to get reading Mistborn as Vin seems to be on a lot of lists today and it sounds like I'm definitely missing out!

  5. Except for Vin & Syl, Who I want to meet by the way. I approve of the list. You made some great points and highlighted why they deserve to be here and I could not agree with you more.

  6. BLUE!!!! ♥♥♥ I love her for being herself, but yeah, it definitely doesn't hurt that she's friends with the Raven Boys, lol!

  7. I feel like I understand Hermione so much better now that I'm a college student. I noticed last time I was reading the series that Hermione is most willing to break the rules when she is literally pushed to her breaking point, like with being overworked in PoA or Umbridge in general in OotP. I can totally relate to her attitude towards school. And I know what you mean about Ginny in the movies.Sometimes she'll have that spark, but most of the times she's just... not Ginny. There's really nothing I can say about Luna, we all acknowledge her awesomeness.

I love that you added Cinder to the list. She is my favorite non-droid character in the series. My favorite character is Iko :D

  11. YES TO ALL THESE HEROINES. Or at least, the ones from the books I've read (still haven't read Harry Potter. And I've only ready The Final Empire and Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. Hoping this will change by the end of the year)

  13. What a wonderful list! I approve of them all!

3 cheers for the ladies of the Harry Potter universe! I had a dream not too long ago that Rowling came out with a series about the trio's kids. And the longer I was awake and realized that wasn't true, the sadder I became.

  14. Yes! Hermione goes on all the lists forever and ever because she is the best! And Celaena is amazing of course! And Katniss too! Love your list.

  15. Celaena clearly deserves the first spot in this list. This girl has everything I admire and I love her to pieces. Hermione is of course also precious, my spirit animal. I love how sassy Blue is and Cinder is so smart! Karou is simply flawless.

  16. Think I must be the only person in the universe who hasn't read Throne of Glass yet. I definitely need to get on that!

  17. <3<3<3<3 HELL YES to Hermione, Ginny, Luna, Celaena, Karou, Cinder, Katniss FOREVER AND ALWAYS!! They are absolutely my Queens, and the other ones on your list I'm sure would be as well if only I had read those books. I give ALL the credit to these Queens for staying strong, intelligent, and loyal even through the worst kinds of adversity. I mean, some of them seriously go through the WORST and stay strong. They will forever be role models for me because of that.

Happy to see you posting a TTT post this week because you rocked this topic!!

  18. HERMIONE FREAKING GRANGER. I can't believe I missed her on my list! She was literally a role model for me growing up because she was always a couple of years older than me when I read each book and I wanted to be just like her.

I also love that you have Ginny on here, but my favorite leading lady in Harry Potter has to be Mcgonagall :D

  19. This post totally just reminded me that I need to pick up Mistborn from the library, ASAP! No list is complete without Celaena Sardothien ;) Good pick with Karou as well, I know I tend to forget her sometimes which is a shame because it's an AMAZING series.
