Waiting on Wednesday *105*

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine in which we spotlight an upcoming book release we're especially looking forward to!

Here's my pick this week:

The Wrath & The Dawn by Renée Ahdieh
The Wrath & The Dawn #1
Expected Publication: May 12th 2015 by Putnam Juvenile

Every dawn brings horror to a different family in a land ruled by a killer. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, takes a new bride each night only to have her executed at sunrise. So it is a suspicious surprise when sixteen-year-old Shahrzad volunteers to marry Khalid. But she does so with a clever plan to stay alive and exact revenge on the Caliph for the murder of her best friend and countless other girls. Shazi's wit and will, indeed, get her through to the dawn that no others have seen, but with a catch . . . she’s falling in love with the very boy who killed her dearest friend.

She discovers that the murderous boy-king is not all that he seems and neither are the deaths of so many girls. Shazi is determined to uncover the reason for the murders and to break the cycle once and for all.
How utterly unique does The Wrath & The Dawn sound?!  I mean sure, it's a reimagining of The Arabian Nights but all the same, it sounds wickedly fresh to me. Mystery, murder, romance: what else could a girl want?   Admittedly, it does seem to have a touch of an insta-lovey vibe...but there might be a good reason for that.  So far, the early reviews have been nothing short of glowing, so I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt!

Let me know what you guys think of this one...

  1. Love this twist on a classic! I have 1001 Nights and am super excited to read them, they are so lovely. This book also sounds very good, hope we both get our hands on this gem soon! Not many books set in an Arabic-inspired world :)

  8. This does sound very cool! Nice cover as well. The first commenter and I had the same thought, the description makes me think of 1001 Nights, with a twist!

  12. This sounds super good! Yes, to more YA retellings (specifically stories from other other cultures that we might not have seen much of at all before)! Plus, the murder mystery aspect of it sounds so great. Great pick!

  14. This is my first time hearing of this book but damn I'm intrigued! I agree, definitely has a bit of an Arabian Nights feel to it but mixed with another story that I can't put my finger on.
I don't see evidence of insta-love in the summary but then again I haven't read any reviews. I'll keep an eye out from now on! Thanks for making me aware of this one :) After my long absence, I'm totally out of the loop as to what's coming out in the next months.
