Scariest Moment in the Series

There are an awful lot of scary moments in the HP series if you ask me! I mean, just in Deathly Hallows alone...there are a ton of instances that could fit the bill. However, I've said it before and I'll say it again; there was one moment that literally had me chuck my book across the room in terror and run straight to bed - where the bf already was, so I'd be safe O.O

Voldemort flying - Chapter 4: The Seven Potters

Now, keep in mind, that in the books Voldemort is THE ONLY ONE who can fly without a broom. And he has those red eyes in the books too.  So that scene where he just appears to Harry out of the mist, red eyes, black smoke...and he's FLYING. *shudder*  I.seriously.could.not.do.it.  I had just gotten my hands on DH, after a mad rush trip to the bookstore minutes before it closed.  So of course, I dove straight in at around 9pm and  I was determined to forgo sleep and read the precious straight through the night...until I got to that part^^  Then, I got paranoid, imagining I'd see a pair of red eyes floating outside my window...the window I happened to be reading next to...in the dark...alone. GAH!!  I swear, I actually threw my book down (on the couch, I wasn't crazy enough to damage the thing of course!) and ran to bed.  >.<

  1. Ugh yes I see how that can be freakishly scary! Especially when you read it before bed no less! I used to be able to read Harry at night but after book 4 it got so dark I felt really weird in a way¨This was no help even though I was a grown ass woman by then :X

  2. Yeah, this was definitely a TENSE moment for me reading it for the first time. It's like a car-wreck that you can't look away from and your heart is beating really fast! Plus, Hedwig!!! It is also really creepy that he can fly without a broom. That was a new one. Here's my HP MOTW

  3. Flying Voldemort freaked me out, too. The Order orchestrated such a careful plan to get Harry away from the Dursleys' safely, and then BAM! There's Voldemort- no broom, no nothing. *shudder*

  4. That part did freak me out but I didn't think of that! Good choices!

  5. I didn't even think of that part. It definitely was crazy that he was able to do it without a broom or any other apparatus. Those eyes were a creepy part of him that was missing from the movies, but he was still thoroughly creepy in the films as well. Great choice! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

  6. Haha! Your enthusiasm is infectious! I love how you watched the movie, got freaked out, then just had to read the book, and got spooked even more. Your poor DH! I'd be hard pressed to pick the scariest scene in the series, but this one's definitely up there.

  7. That is definitely a creepy scene! Especially the first time you read it because WHY IS VOLDIE FLYING ALL OF A SUDDEN! Gahh what I wouldn't give to be able to read HP again for the first time!

  8. Dude yesss it was a pretty damn intense and scary part. When I was younger, ever scene with Voldermort included just scared the living daylights out of me heh.

    Thanks for sharing, Micheline! <33

  9. Yes! I completely agree, that scene was one of the scariest things in the whole series! It freaked me out so much!

That's one of the things I really wish they kept in the movies, his red eyes. It would have been really freaky to actually see, but it would have made him seem even more dangerous and inhuman.

I didn't write a HPMW because school is kicking my butt, but the one I would have chosen would be the scene in the Goblet of Fire when Harry's at the cemetery and Voldemort was being resurrected. That scene creeped me out so much! Especially when they described how he looked, tall, pale, red eyes, no nose. I also read that scene in the dead of night and like you I could not continue reading past that scene.

  11. ohmygod yes. Totally freaky!! I'm not sure I could pinpoint exactly which point in the books was the scariest moment because there are lots, but this one would definitely be in the top, along with many other Voldemort moments... and the time that Nagini emerged out of Bathilda Bagshot's body *shudders*

  12. Yes, this was definitely a scary moment. Though, for me, even scarier than Voldemort, were any of the scenes to include dementors. Those things made me put the books down a few times. So, I may have kept freaking out from them through all of book 3....Now that I think about it, these books can be pretty scary! Between Voldemort and the dementors, there was a lot of darkness.

  13. Oooh, this is a really good question! The moment you picked is still very vivid in my mind as well, it was definitely a creepy moment. I was always a little freaked out over the Dementors, and for some reason that scene where Harry and Voldemort meet in the graveyard creeped me out too.
