Harry Potter MotW #64

Harry Potter Moment of the Week

Harry Potter Moment of the week is a weekly meme hosted over at Uncorked Thoughts. The idea is to share one favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote, object from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!    For information on how to join up & for upcoming topics, click here.

If there is one thing you could change about Harry Potter, what would it be?

I wasn't sure if this week's question referred to Harry Potter, the character or Harry Potter, the series...but I managed to find an answer that would encompass both possible eventualities:  If we're talking about Harry Potter as a character well then I wish that Harry hadn't fallen for Voldemort's trap in OotP and had NOT gone to the Ministry.  Then Sirius might still be alive....

And, if we're talking about the Harry Potter series as a whole, well, then I wish that Sirius could have survived. I know I've said in the past that I've made my peace with this and that I understand why he had to died, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.  *sobs quietly*

  1. I picked almost the same, but more general - Harry's overall rash behavior, and all the deaths together, that were very unnecessary!
But I agree, Sirius' was the worst, especially because of Harry's headstrong nature.

  2. While I would leave harry as he was I would like to change one thing about the movies. I would include Peeves. I hated that they left him out. But yeah the death of Sirius is something I could have lived with out. Matt @ JC's Book Haven.

  3. LOL I had a problem with the question too. Glad I wasn't the only one. I went with character Harry and noticed most everyone else going with the series itself. I agree about the dumb decision there to fall for Voldy's trick, but everything in all happened just as it should. Harry had to be 'parentless' at the end for it to make sense and be able to make that sacrifice. It was easier for him knowing all those people were waiting for him on the other side that he loved so much. Great choice! Sirius is awesome and it sucked seeing him go. Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

  4. I don't think I'll ever be able to come to terms with Sirius's death. I was gutted over his loss, and also the loss of the future he and Harry should have had together. Sometimes when I watch the OotP movie, I change the channel during *that* scene and then flip back once it's over because . . . I just can't.

  5. I cried when he died! He was one of my, and still is, favorite characters and It took a while to get over his death. Actually I'm not all that confident that I did get over his death. Whenever I watch the movies or the books with him in it I always pay attention to his character and ignore the rest of the characters because I miss him being alive.

  6. I try and look at it from the author's perspective, someone had to die to trigger something in Harry's journey and develop his character... but IT STILL HURTS! Every time I read that scene it's like I'm standing next to Harry waiting for Sirius to come out from behind the veil and when he doesn't it's just like... this hollow/sad feeling.

  7. Sirius' death, among so many others, was a hard to take. It still is and I although I don't like it, I think it definitely needs to be apart of the story. :/

  8. I think his death was the most impressive to me, since he played such an important new role in Harry's life as a father figure. It was hard that was taken away from him for the second time.

  11. I wouldn't have known what to say for this question, so I'm impressed you came up with such a good question. I agree (sadly)!
