Harry Potter MotW #60

Harry Potter Moment of the Week

Harry Potter Moment of the week is a weekly meme hosted over at Uncorked Thoughts. The idea is to share one favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote, object from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself!    For information on how to join up & for upcoming topics, click here.

 Favorite Dumbledore Moment

Oh man, how do you even narrow something like this down?  Dumbledore is a bloody genius and to me every word that comes out of his mouth and every thought that crosses his mind is of value.  He's such an inspirational character and despite his past and his flaws, he's one of the wisest characters I've ever come across. I just love him to bits! So many of his moments stand out in my mind as defining to the series but I think one moment might just surpass the others for me:

Taking up a bigger role in Harry's magical education

From the very beginning of the series, I'd been hoping Dumbledore would step up and teach Harry on his own.  So imagine my delight right at the start of Half-Blood Prince when Dumbledore personally picks up Harry at the Dursley's.  After giving them a good old talking to, Dumbledore whisks Harry away on a mysterious stopover at Slughorn's before dropping the boy off at The Burrow.  One of my favorite moments is the little talk Dumbledore and Harry have in the Weasley's shed where the old wizard offers up praise for the boy who lived - before promising that Harry will be taking special classes with him during the coming year!  From the moment those one on one classes started, I was set.  The interactions, conversations and planning that goes down between the two of them are some of my absolute favorite moments in the series.  Their journey to the dreaded cave ^^ was terrifying, exciting and epic all at once.  Even though it ends in heartbreak, it needed to happen that way and I wouldn't change a thing.

  1. Great pick! I love that moment and I love their lessons together. Dumbledore is an excellent teacher. He has become a model headmaster for me :D

  2. This was such a great thing to see! Especially after the fiasco of Snape "teaching" Harry, it felt necessary for Dumbledore to step up and give him some help. It was also great because it was education that had a practical and immediate application, which just made their moments together even better to see. Excellent pick, here's mine: HP MOTW.

  3. That's a great pick! I really enjoyed it as well, especially D giving the Dursleys their own, then taking Harry away and finally giving him the chance in the fight. He was always underestimating him so he finally stepped up. :D

  4. Those lessons were mesmerizing to read about, especially as they were loaded with so much vital information that Harry would need in DH. I don't think I appreciated HBP like I should have the first time I read it, possibly because I was so wrecked over the ending, but now I definitely do.

  5. Brilliant pick! I adored those lessons and loved those trips in the pensieve. I loved that things were finally starting to come together and make sense!

  6. I feel the same way! I loved that Dumbledore gave the Dursleys the 'how it is gonna be' talk. In that chat in the shed, he also gives Harry the right to divulge things to Hermione and Ron, suggesting he made the right choice in trust-worthy friends. Then, all the things they learned about Tom and the trips in the pensieve were fantastic. This was the point when the direction was changing, Dumbledore showing that Harry was a major player in stopping Voldemort. Up to this point, I was asking myself, "Why can't Dumbldore just handle him?".

  8. I would have chosen a similar moment! I always loved the relationship between Harry and Dumbledore, especially since Harry didn't really have a figure to look up to before then.

  9. Ooh yeah, tough to narrow down! Like, pretty much every scene with Dumbledore is my favourite Dumbledore scene X) But yes, I really like your choice and completely agree with you! I had been waiting for it along with Harry for a long time and I love that Harry had that time with him before the end. I love Dumbledore's wiseness, but I also love all the little humorous moments and wit he has ^^
