Harry Potter MotW #54

Harry Potter Moment of the Week

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a meme hosted over at Uncorked Thoughts. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote, object from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself! Upcoming topics & how to join here.

  Favorite Romantic Moment

This is one of those rare instances where I had an answer the minute I saw the topic this week.  I already know I'm in the minority here with my mad love for these two, but I don't care.  This my ship and I will go down with it!

Harry & Ginny's First Kiss

Now I'm not talking about that awful, awkward movie kiss, where Ginny has no fire, and she kisses Harry, who doesn't even seem to know WHAT's going on. No. Just no.  I mean the gorgeous book kiss, where they're in front of the ENTIRE Gryffindor Common Room and Harry kisses Ginny like he means it and they're both so intense about it...they just melt the entire Hogwarts Castle with their passion. Yup, THAT kiss.

"… Without thinking, without planning it, without worrying about the fact that fifty people were watching, Harry kissed her."

  1. Awwww yes the book kiss was awesome, and Ron was so funny afterwards. Movie Harry/Ginny totally ruined everything. Soooo horrible!

  2. I haven't read the books in so long, I don't remember the book kiss, but it already sounds better than the movie one!

  3. Aaah Ginny is so amazing in the book! And she is so independent and sassy as well and it made me really sad to hardly see that in the movie. I guess it's what happens when there's so much happening in books that they have to cut back on characterization :( But this is an amazing moment, great choice :)

  4. I cannot pick my favorite romantic moment. Although somewhat morbid and really sad, I also like Lupin and Tonks' end. Despite the sad moment it was beautiful that they died making the world a better place for their son. I don't know if it is really romantic, but I does show a lot of love!

  5. Yes! I debated using that as my moment too, but went with a Ron/Hermione movie moment instead! I've just started this meme, and I'm really digging all the HP reminders.

  6. Oooh- that is such an awesome image of Harry and Ginny! I also found their movie kiss rather ... lame, one of the rare times when the movie didn't quite capture the book. Lovely pick, Micheline! :)

  7. YES! I love that moment. I didn't like how the movie relationship turned out at all. They were so much better together in the books. That moment was so fantastic because it was a spur of the moment, filled with passion, just kinda happened moment. Great choice! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

  8. Blargh, I feel like they put more effort into making meaningful couple-y moments for Harry/Hermione in the movies than they did for Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione! So frustrating, and it's no wonder that movie watchers are confused in thinking that Harry should have ended up with Hermione. Wrong! But yes, this kiss - as well as Ron and Hermione's first kiss - is totally the most romantic moment in the series for me as well. I just wish the movie would have done their relationship justice! And Ginny's character justice, for that matter...
