Harry Potter MotW #49

Harry Potter Moment of the Week

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a meme hosted over at Uncorked Thoughts. The idea is to share a favorite moment, magical item, character, spell, quote, object from the books, films or J.K.Rowling herself! Upcoming topics & how to join here.

  Best Shop in Diagon Alley

Before I even get started on picking a favorite, I want to know: can I just live in Diagon Alley??  I mean, of course I want to live at Hogwarts...but if I have to leave in the Summer or on holidays or whatever, can my second home be in Diagon Alley?  I don't think I'd ever want to leave a place that combines shopping with magic. Sigh. How do you even pick a favorite when there's shops filled with magical books, magical owls, cats and flying brooms?!?  Oh! I know how to pick:

I pick Ollivander's because well, having a wand is like THE biggest part of being a witch or wizard.  And you all know I've said my magical job in JKR's world would have to be Wandmaker so this place is like my holy grail!  And honestly, walking in there at 11 years old and having your wand chose you sounds like THE highlight of LIFE.

More on Ollivander's:
"Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C."
Ollivanders Wand Shop in South Side, Diagon Alley, London, is owned by the Ollivander family and run by an older family member Garrick Ollivander, known only as Mr. Ollivander. Mr. Ollivander has been serving as the family shopkeeper at least since the 1930s, and remembers every wand he's ever sold. The Ollivander family are widely acknowledged to be the best wandmakers in Britain, and rank among the finest wandmakers in Europe. Wandmaking has been the family business since 382 B.C. Although there are other wandmakers in Britain, most new British wands are purchased from Ollivanders, including almost all first wands purchased by incoming Hogwarts students. There is also an Ollivanders Wand Shop in Hogsmeade. -Harry Potter Wikia

  1. LOL I wanna live there, too! Or rather, live in Hogmease and at Hogwarts, and have a DA holiday haha :D Forget Egypt and seaside, holidays with shopping! :D
Great pick, Ollivander's seems so good, and I hope we'd have a reason to visit often for like polish and so on haha :D Besides, it's THE thing that connects you to magical world. :D

  2. Oh my god, this is the best feature I've ever seen in my life. I love this! And you picked a very nice shop :D Ollivander's really is the core of the Harry Potter world.

  3. Yeah, Ollivanders is a very special shop! :D
I'm glad that we all agree that all the shops are great. ;)
And you've found a really nice gif! :)

  4. I could also easily live in Diagon Alley! I loved the part in PoA when Harry pretty much did exactly that after leaving the Dursleys. Ollivanders has such an extra special feel to it; I would seriously want to try out ALL the wands, even if most of them didn't choose me, lol.

  5. I agree THAT moment in a wizard's life is so precious. I would love having my wand choose me. You couldn't help but loving your wand since it picked you in the first place. Remember when Harry went to Diagon Alley for a couple of weeks in the summer? I loved hearing about all the shop owners and his time there. Great pick! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

  6. Ahhh man I agree SO much with this! There won't be any other moment that's important as getting your wand. I NEED THIS EXPERIENCE. I refuse to believe I'm a mere muggle!

  7. Ollivander's would totally be my pick too. How awesome would that be even walking in there... *sigh* Plus you are 100% right that going in there to choose something that important for the first time would be such a great experience. Now I'm totally feeling the need for a rewatch ;)

  8. Ooh yes, after Hogwarts, Diagon Alley would be the next place I would want to visit... and now we sort of can at the theme park!! I need to start saving my money so that I can go to Orlando... and I MUST get a wand from Ollivander's!!

I LOVE comments & do my best to return every one a.s.a.p. ♥
