Waiting on Wednesday *75*

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by  Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming book releases that we're especially looking forward to!

Here's what I'm waiting on this week:

Salt & Storm by Kendall Kulper
Expected Publication: September 23rd, 2014 by Little Brown

Sixteen-year-old Avery Roe wants only to take her rightful place as the witch of Prince Island, making the charms that keep the island’s whale men safe and prosperous at sea. But before she could learn how to control her power, her mother, the first Roe woman in centuries to turn her back on magic, stole Avery away from her grandmother. Avery must escape from her mother before her grandmother dies, taking with her the secrets of the Roes’ power.

When Avery awakens from a dream foretelling her own murder, she realizes time is running short—for her and for the people of her island, who, without the Roes, will lose their ships and the only life they know.

With the help of Tane, a tattooed harpoon boy from the Pacific Islands, Avery plots her escape from her mother and unravels the mysteries of her mother’s and grandmother’s pasts. Becoming a witch may prevent her murder and save her island from ruin, but Avery discovers it will also require a sacrifice she never expected—one she might not be able to make.
A historical fantasy involving witches, magic, mystery and the sea? Yeah, I don't think I even need to explain to any of you why I'm waiting on this one beyond that lol. Oh wait, there's also a tattooed boy!  There. That's it. I'm done.  I would like one copy of Salt & Storm in my hands now, please!  I love how the blurb says that the MC Avery makes charms to keep fishermen safe. I hope her mom isn't too much of a b-word though, and if so well...I hope Avery gets rid of her early on.  I want to get to that escape and whatever sacrifice she has to make - eeep.  I'm really into this one, I wish it was coming out sooner!

What do you guys think of this one - any thoughts? Let me know & link me up

  1. It's been a long while since I read the blurb for this one... and now that I've read it again, I'm definitely really into it, as well! I really love that this one takes place on a sea side setting as opposed to the usual settings we see with witch-centric stories, like castles or boarding schools. Good to change it up! I am a wee bit concerned that this one won't end up being everything I want it to be though because I keep getting burned by these witch and magic books that don't live up to my expectations. I guess maybe I have high standards where witches are concerned?

    1. I agree -the sea-side setting isn't the usual witch setting so it instantly had me interested. Oh I'm sorry you've had bad luck with witch books but hopefully this one will change than ;-) You're right though: I think I have unusually high standards where witches are concerned heh

  3. YES! I'm so excited for this one! For all the reasons you said, and I'm quite enamored of the idea of a tattooed harpoon boy. :) AND I love the cover! Great pick!!
