Waiting on Wednesday *71*

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by  Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming book releases that we're especially looking forward to!

Here's my pick this week:

The Immortal Crown by Richelle Mead
Age of X #2
Expected Publication: May 29th by Dutton Adult

Gameboard of the Gods introduced religious investigator Justin March and Mae Koskinen, the beautiful supersoldier assigned to protect him. Together they have been charged with investigating reports of the supernatural and the return of the gods, both inside the Republic of United North America and out. With this highly classified knowledge comes a shocking revelation: Not only are the gods vying for human control, but the elect—special humans marked by the divine—are turning against one another in bloody fashion.

Their mission takes a new twist when they are assigned to a diplomatic delegation headed by Lucian Darling, Justin’s old friend and rival, going into Arcadia, the RUNA’s dangerous neighboring country. Here, in a society where women are commodities and religion is intertwined with government, Justin discovers powerful forces at work, even as he struggles to come to terms with his own reluctantly acquired deity.

Meanwhile, Mae—grudgingly posing as Justin’s concubine—has a secret mission of her own: finding the illegitimate niece her family smuggled away years ago. But with Justin and Mae resisting the resurgence of the gods in Arcadia, a reporter’s connection with someone close to Justin back home threatens to expose their mission—and with it the divine forces the government is determined to keep secret.
Some of you may remember me being kind of all over the place when it came to the first book in this series (Gameboard of the Gods) but that doesn't mean I'm not curious to see what direction Richelle Mead plans to take her adult dystopian series next.  I'm hoping some of the issues I had with book 1 will be resolved and that the sequel will offer more information on the world...and it's mythology.

What are you waiting on this week? Link me up!

  1. This is this first time I've ever heard of this series. I just went on GR to look at some of Richelle Mead's books and I had NO idea that she has written so many books. I'm gonna have to look into some of them! Thanks for sharing!! xoxo

  3. I haven't read the first in this series, but it is on my shelf. I heard such mixed reviews that I always hesitate to start it. I'm curious to know how this one will be reviewed though! Hope you get your hands on it soon, Micheline!

  4. I'm also curious to see if the sequel will be well received. I recall some mixed reviews from the first book, but hopefully she'll improve on the series. That's how it is with Vampire Academy, anyway.

  5. I haven't actually heard about the first book, but this has definitely gotten my attention now. I'll read your other review, and wait to see what you think of this one first, but it does sound good so far!

  6. I believe I got the first book from a friend but never read it after hearing not many were satisfied with it. But the blurbs still make me curious! I guess I'm up for giving it a chance :)
