Waiting on Wednesday *67*

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by  Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming book releases that we're especially looking forward to!

Here's my pick this week:

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
Snow Lie Ashes #1
Expected Publication: October 14th, 2014 by Balzer+Bray

A heartbroken girl. A fierce warrior. A hero in the making.

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.

Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.

So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn't go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.
I love me some high-fantasy (as all of you must have figured out by now hehe) and Snow Like Ashes sounds like the perfect combination of fantasy, dystopia and adventure!  I'm also really digging how determined and resourceful the MC Moira seems to be.  I'm also instantly curious to know all the details about how Winter lost it's magic...and the locked that could restore it! I really want to sit down with this one and start exploring this world :)

What's your take on Snow Like Ashes?
Don't forget to link me up to your WoW Post!

Have you read The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta?? That's a great High Fantasy, same as The Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes.

  5. I sort of want this one, but I am conflicted. The Yin-Yang has me thinking it will have an Asian element which I must have, but if it isn't...meh. You will have to let me know!

  6. HIGH FANTASY. All I need to hear these days, heh. But seriously, this one does sound especially good. I'm hoping to start reading some positive early reviews for this one soon! I'll be disappointed if they're less than positive.

This blog is an award-free zone. I appreciate the thought but I can't invest the time needed.
