Stacking the Shelves *33*

Stacking the Shelves

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga's Reviews showcasing new books we've gotten a hold of (bought/given/gifted/trade/for review).

Hi everyone, hope you're all having a wonderful week :) This week, I have a mix of Birthday Spoils and some ARC goodness that I happened to get approved for close to my birthday! YAY!

Mitosis (Reckoners #1.5) by Brandon SandersonBorn of Deception (Born of Illusion #2) by Terri Brown and Exiled (The Protector #1) by M.R. Merrick

Story time: As a Birthday gift from me to me (those are the best kinds right?... I always seem to know exactly what I want!) I decided to order myself up something nice and pretty.   I'd been wanting to get myself hardbound copies of Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight - mine were of the paperback/arc variety...Anyways with The Assassin's Blade coming in with it's gorgeous hardback recently, I (of course) wanted a matching set.

So. This post is over 2 weeks late - my birthday was March 10th - but there's totally a good reason for that.  Here's why: I waited until TBD delivered my ToG goodness aaaaaalllllll the way to Canada because I knew I'd want to take a picture of them all, together in their full glory!  And obviously I wanted to share the pretty with all of you :-D And so I waited.  Until finally, this week all my books showed up.

This is what I was expecting:

*cue angelic music and light shining from above*

This is what I got:

*womp womp*

D'oh!  Epic fail. *facepalm* Anyways... here's the deal: Both my local bookstore AND both list the Throne of Glass hardback with the old original cover (see it here)  The Book Depository was the only place to list a hardback with the new kickass covers.  Only it had been out of stock for ages.  I set up a 'notify me' alert after CoM came out and last month I finally got a notification that it was in stock!  Of course I was going to order right?  Needless to say I was pretty bummed out when it's a hardback, but library binding so the cover art is actually printed directly on the cover.  Plus it's so tiny haha!  It's leeeetle >.<  Oh well, I'll just keep hoping they come out with a mind-blowingly EPIC boxed-set once all the books are out.  This girl WILL be splurging on that. In the meantime does anyone know where I can get myself the proper hardcover edition? Do they even exist?  Am I searching for a mythical beast here?!  This could be like a quest...

Do you need to have matching editions of your favorite books?
Let me know in the comments when you link me up ;-)

  1. Great haul!! I've been wanting to pick up Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson.
Sucks what happened with the Throne of Glass books. I would be really disappointed if I got that. Sadly though, I don't think they sell the hardcover edition of Throne of Glass with the kick-butt cover. I've looked and looked, but came up empty. The good thing is while the first cover doesn't really match the rest, the spines look fine with one another on the shelves. You can't even tell there was a cover change from looking at the spines.
I hope you like all of your new books :D

  2. Nice haul. Steelheart was so good. You got a great selection of books. Happy Birthday.

    Books of Love

  3. Happy Belated Birthday, Micheline! ♥ Super, super sweet haul! That is such a bummer about the Throne of Glass cover, though. I think the cover redesign was done for the paperback edition, which is the one I have. I'm neurotic about matching covers/editions, and it drives me a little crazy whenever there's a mid-series cover change. I keep meaning to do a blog rant about it, hehe. Anyway, enjoy all of your lovelies! :D

  4. Oh my I really hope they do come out with a boxset for that series! It's probably my favorite so far. I wish I had gotten the nice hardcovers with the images like you have, but I got the paperbacks in the UK version. They're pretty, but I like hardcovers better.
Also Happy Birthday!! I can't remember if I wished you a good one yet.
Have a great week and enjoy all of your books :)

  5. Happy Belated Birthday!! I'm sorry about the covers for your books, I really love the Throne of Glass covers and actually ordered mine specially from The Book Depository so I could get paperbacks instead of Hardcovers. I'm weird bc I favor paperbacks where most people want the hardcovers. Oh well. I'm sure they'll be a box set at some point. There has to be! I own Steelheart but I haven't read it yet. I really need to get on that! Great haul!

  6. Oh Micheline HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY!! I hope all your pretty gifts to yourself were enough to make up for the horror that is a mismatched series set! Aww, that would be pretty disappointing if I got that copy in the mail. I have the original cover hardback (which I love actually because it shows off Celaena's girly side) and while they don't match, at least the heights are the same. You could possibly get a refund from TBD if it wasn't the book that was described in the listing (I know from experience that TBD is pretty good about that kind of stuff). But I have no doubt they'll come out with a pretty bitchin' boxset once all 6 books are released!! And it will be glorious.

  7. Happy Belated Birthday. i hoped to get teh assassin's blade and Crown of Midnight too for mine ( on the 16th) ...sadly they were picked from my list so i will have to wait longer.

i understand why you want books matching on your shelves ( in this case i need the hardcover since i have book 1 in that edition) i usually don't care if it's hardcover or paperback when i start but once i started i want all teh series to match^^

i hope you will find teh edition you want if it exist ( positive your edition of throne of glass include the extras^^;;)

  8. Happy belated birthday!!

I've started to let go of the feeling I need to have matching covers. It's all about the inside after all :D The assassins's blade is so pretty <3 Happy reading!

I LOVE comments & do my best to return every one a.s.a.p. ♥
