Waiting on Wednesday *38*

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly 'hump-day' feature hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine where book bloggers get together & spotlight an upcoming release we're especially looking forward to!

Here's my pick for this week:

Love in the Time of Global Warming

Release Date: August 27th, 2013

Author: Francesca Lia Block

Seventeen-year-old Penelope (Pen) has lost everything—her home, her parents, and her ten-year-old brother. Like a female Odysseus in search of home, she navigates a dark world full of strange creatures, gathers companions and loses them, finds love and loses it, and faces her mortal enemy.

In her signature style, Francesca Lia Block has created a world that is beautiful in its destruction and as frightening as it is lovely. At the helm is Pen, a strong heroine who holds hope and love in her hands and refuses to be defeated.

That brief little write-up there has already brought on the feels.  And I love a story where and MC sets off traveling, with no destination and ends up having an life-changing adventure!  Love in the Time of Global Warming sounds like an offbeat, thrilling and emotional ride, though I'm honestly not sure what to expect beyond that.  I'm particularly curious about those 'strange creatures' the blurb mentions...especially since this book's tag words include: magical-realism, sci-fi, fantasy & dystopia. Yeah, this is me --> :D

  1. I just loooove that cover! The idea of a female Odysseus is pretty unique! I don't really know what to expect of the world though. But I'm also counting on those strange creatures ;) Moreover, I love finding beauty in what seems like a hopeless situation or a destroyed world. I'll wait for the reviews though to get some more details about the actual plot.
Great pick, hun! Genre-benders can be awesome :)

    1. I don't know what to expect either but it seemed so different from my usual but at the same time something right up my alley - don't know if that made any sense O.O And your comment about finding beauty in a seemingly hopeless situation or world = ♥ Thanks doll!

  2. This looks like it could be good, but we shall see! Definitely liking the cover too :) Thanks for sharing this one!

    1. Agreed! My pleasure Kelsey, thanks for stopping by :)

  3. This one sounds good. I love the cover of it. I have heard some mixed things about it, but it still definitely sounds like something I would like.

  4. It's strange because with this one, my interest lies purely in how little I know what to expect of it! It's just so odd and unique and mysterious. And thus intriguing. Which is weird because I usually know going into a book the exact reasons for which I want to read it. And how is it possible for a book to have so many tag words/genres?! I'm impressed. And I love the cover and title, too!!

I LOVE comments & do my best to return every one a.s.a.p. ♥
