Waiting on Wednesday *37*

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly 'hump-day' feature hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine where book bloggers get together & spotlight an upcoming release we're especially looking forward to!

Here's my pick for this week:

Steelheart

Release Date: September 24th, 2013

Author: Brandon Sanderson

Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.

But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.

Nobody fights the Epics... nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart—the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning—and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He's seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge.

Yes, I'll admit it: I've been talking about this one non-stop already. And yes, I did get a copy at BEA so I'm technically not really waiting on it anymore...BUT, in my defense: I hadn't featured it as a WoW post yet and it was the one scheduled to go up this week.  Plus, I'm holding off to read it closer to the release date - if only because I have so many other books to get to! So really, I am still waiting on Steelheart.  And you know me, I'll jump at any excuse to fangirl over Brandon Sanderson!!  For Steelheart, Sanderson revisits the idea of magic powers coming from or using metal (*ahem* Mistborn) but in typical Sanderson fashion, he offers a fresh & innovative spin on things! Steelheart is a sci-fi, dystopian read about Epics - who are pretty much like super-humans or Superheroes (!!!) who wish to rule ordinary humans.  And then there are Reckoners, regular people with no power who study the Epics...so they can fight back.  Hmm, calling them 'Epics' seems fitting because this book sounds like just that - EPIC.

Enough fan-girling from me - are YOU excited for Steelheart?
Link me you to your WoW posts guys!

  1. I'm excited for this one, too. I love anything with superpowers. And I know exactly what you mean. I have books on hand that I'm dying to read, but I know I have to get through others first. Great pick!

  5. Fabulous pick!! And I totally do that too. Even if I have a book, I will still use it as a WoW if it's far away! Like Alienated, I mean it's a Jan. release so I'm not going to read it yet just because I have it. So technically I am still waiting for it. ;) Sorry, totally just rambled!

  6. I have been seeing Brandon Sanderson everywhere lately and it's really making me want to read Mistborn again and finish that series. I also want to get my hands on all these new books coming out too.

  7. If I wasn't excited before, how could I NOT be now?! Especially after that blurb? You've sold me Micheline. I will read a Sanderson book by the end of the summer. And then pick this up when it comes out. :D

This blog is an award-free zone. I appreciate the thought but I can't invest the time needed.
