Waiting on Wednesday *36*

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly 'hump-day' feature hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where us book bloggers get together & spotlight an upcoming release we're especially looking forward to!

Here's my pick for this week:

The Chaos of Stars

Release Date: September 10th, 2013

Author: Kiersten White

Isadora’s family is seriously screwed up.

Of course, as the human daughter of Egyptian gods, that pretty much comes with the territory. She’s also stuck with parents who barely notice her, and a house full of relatives who can’t be bothered to remember her name. After all, they are going to be around forever—and she’s a mere mortal.

Isadora’s sick of living a life where she’s only worthy of a passing glance, and when she has the chance to move to San Diego with her brother, she jumps on it. But Isadora’s quickly finding that a “normal” life comes with plenty of its own epic complications—and that there’s no such thing as a clean break when it comes to family. Much as she wants to leave her past behind, she can’t shake the ominous dreams that foretell destruction for her entire family. When it turns out there may be truth in her nightmares, Isadora has to decide whether she can abandon her divine heritage after all.
I have not read anything by Kiersten White...yet. I know a lot of people liked her Paranormalcy Series, but I also know a lot of people were underwhelmed by Mind Games but as conflicting as all that might sound, it all came down to one thing for me: this book is about Ancient Egypt!!  Egyptian gods & myths *flails*  Cards on the table, I'm kinda obsessed with Ancient Egypt so any excuse to spend time in a world like that is a win for me. I want to find out how Isadora's status as a mortal comes into play with her immortal Egyptian relatives and what effect(s) - if any, her heritage has on her in way of abilities or even powers!  And that cover? Gorgeous.

Thoughts?  Are you a Mythology-lover or an Egypt-fanatic like me?

  3. I'm really excited for this one, too. I actually loved Mind Games (it's a polarizing one). I love that it follows Egyptian mythology, which you don't see very often. And, for real, that cover is amazeballs. Great pick!

    1. It really does seem like Mind Games is a very polarizing read but yeah like you said Egyptian Mythology is a pretty rare occurrence and I'm such an Egypt-junkie, I couldn't resist no matter what :D Thanks for stopping by Natalie!

  4. Just to warn you, I've read all of Kiersten's books, not counting this one, and I won't be reading another. Paranormalcy was actually fluffy fun, but funny is what she does best. Mind Games fell flat on its face, and I'm afraid this will too. Her writing's very simple and so is the plotting. There's an evil curse at the end of the Paranormalcy series that's too stupid for words. Anyway, I hope you do like this, and that she's getting better, but the advance reviews I've seen haven't been that encouraging. :/

    1. LOL, thanks for the warning! I was somewhat prepared after the reviews for Mind Games but I hadn't paid too much attention to that one, since I'd never been into it to begin with. I'll be checking this one out for sure because it's about ancient Egypt (*flails*) but I'll be proceeding with caution >.<

  7. A bazillion yeses to this! I have an Egalley that I haven't read yet - I was underwhelmed by Mind Games but loved paranormalcy, and I love mythology but the fact that it's egyptian makes it even more desirable in the mist of all the roman, greek and norse mythology books showing up lately! Great pick!
