Stacking the Shelves *21*

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga's Reviews showcasing new books we've gotten a hold of (bought/given/gifted/trade/for review).

~*For Review*~

The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden #2) by Julie Kagawa

I'm planing on starting The Immortal Rules soon so I couldn't resist requesting this one on Netgalley.  I've heard great things about book 1 so I can't wait to get started - Dystiopian Vampire stories sound just too amazing!

A BIG thanks to Harlequin for the copy!

I also bought a few books this week, working on books I've been meaning to get my hands on for a little while - or longer:

Alright, so ever since I read the Percy Jackson books I've been wanting to check out the rest of Riordan's work.  Seeing how I'm pretty much obsessed with ancient Egypt, his Kane Chronicles appealed to me...as much as I love anything Egyptian, I admit I'm not overly familiar with Egyptian Myths but I think Riordian's light & fun take on mythology could be good.

The Amber Spyglass is book 3 in the His Dark Materials Series (Golden Compass books) and as much as I enjoyed book 1, book 2 just didn't go in the direction I was hoping.  It left me somewhat conflicted about even starting book 3 but I've gotten this far so I can't really stop now!

I am a BIG fan of The Count of Monte Cristo film (HUGE fan in fact) but I have to sort of shamefully admit that I've never read the book.  And being me, I have to experience both.  I sort of held out for a long time because I'd heard that the film does an even better job at telling the story than the book does (which is NEVER the case).  Anyways, the boyfriend saw it while running around in Wal-Mart & he picked it up for me!  It is a beast of a book so I really hope it'll compare to the film.

The Mists of Avalon was recommended by one of my dearest friends.  She knows how much I love high fantasy & this one is pretty much a classic - it's an Arthurian historical fantasy told through the eyes of the women of his court.  She was shocked that I'd never read it...but my embarrassment was short lived after she admitted to still not having read the Harry Potter books o.O  We made a deal that I would read this if she read the Potter books...but again this book is another monster at almost 900 pages so I'm a little scared!

That's it for me, what did YOU get this week?
Link me below please!

  2. So I'm STILL 2/3 through Mists of Avalon (partially because it's in a box somewhere at my parents' house...) and while I'm planning on picking it up again, it's probably going to be a bit. It's a good book, but very slow. I commend you and wish you luck :D. Also I hope you like The Amber Spyglass. It definitely gets a little weirder at the end, but it makes you think and I liked it a lot ;-)

    1. See that's what I've heard...and at that size you kind of want it to move along...a little?! It's definitely one I wanted to have at my disposal, but I'll have to be in the right mindset to start it that's for sure ;)

The Golden Compass was just such a brilliant surprise - I'd seen the film first o.O (yeah) and so the book was just awesome. But then book 2 sort of veered off in a direction I didn't care for as much...I'll definitely be finishing the series though :)

  3. I'm planning on reading The Immortal Rules soon too, so I hope you enjoy that as well as The Eternity Cure. I read the first book in the His Dark Materials series years ago but never continued with the rest of the books, but I'm definitely going to pick up the books again soon. I hope The Amber Spyglass is a great read for you! :)

    1. I've heard nothing but good things about The Immortal Rules so I'm really keen on starting them soon!! I really enjoyed the first book in His Dark Materials but the second was a little bit of a let down...probably why I've been stalling at starting the third heh. I still do have hope for book 3 and I hope you'll love the rest of the series when you do get around to finishing them :)

The Red Pyramid is a book I've got on my shelf but haven't read yet. I'm really excited to see what Riordan does with Egyptian mythology. And have you heard he's doing a crossover between this series and the Percy Jackson ones?! It one of my reasons to read it SOON

    1. Thanks Quinn, I REALLY liked The Golden Compass and I really did like The Subtle Knife...overall, I just didn't like how a certain plot point found it's basis. But now I've had time to accept it (lol) so I'm hoping I'll enjoy The Amber Spyglass more :) Glad to hear it was your favorite!! Thanks for the input ♥

  18. I got The Eternity Cure too! :D
And you hava lot of familiar-but-it's-been-forever ads here - I read both The Amber Spyglass and The Mists of Avalon when I was about 14... but I got a bit annyoed with Mists of Avalon (poor Morgaine!). I liked the book about Albion better (don't know the exact English title, back then my English was awful and I read them all in German).
I love the Monte Cristo movie too!! You're talking about the one with Jim Caviezel, right? I sometimes watch it with my mum ^^ I've never read the book either though... but I read Dumas' Three Musketeers (when I was waaay to young for that kinda book - also because of the movie :P).
I hope you'll enjoy all of them! And kudos to your boyfriend for spotting Monte Cristo and thinking of you ;)

    1. Yay!! :D
I kind of stalled with the His Dark Materials after book2 but I really need to get it finished already! And I'm a little scared about Mists to be honest but my friend who recommended it to me was just raving about it! Crossing my fingers haha

YES the Monte Cristo film starring Jim Caviezel, Richard Harris & Guy Pearce! Probably one of my ALL-time favorite movies ♥ That's why I kind of feel obligated to read the source material >.<

Thanks for stopping by love & yeah the bf def earned some brownie points there ;)

  19. Eek, 900 pages is majorly daunting!! But I've also heard it's a must read classic. So I will definitely be on the lookout for your review to hear what you thought of it! I hope you love The Immortal Rules and The Amber Spyglass because I know I did. I somehow have never read the Percy Jackson books so I should get on that sometime. I'm pretty sure I would be a fan!

    1. I hope I get the courage to tackle it soon, I'm really curious about it! I have heard nothing but great things about The Immortal Rules so I'm glad to hear you loved it too, I'm thinking I'll hop on that bandwagon soon! I definitely loved The Golden Compass but I was somewhat let down by a plot twist in The Subtle Knife...even though i did enjoy it nonetheless. I've stalled though now so I really should just get on with it and finish the series >.< haha I think you'd enjoy the Percy Jackson books too, the first ones were around 3-stars for me but I enjoyed the series overall!
