Obsessing On... *1* - Doctor Who

Obsessing On...is a new Lunar Rainbows' feature that I've decided to launch.  Every month I will spotlight one of my many fan-girl obsessions ranging from bookish themes to television & movies! One month I may showcase a book-boyfriend obsession, the next I could feature a classic television series I like to geek out on.  If anyone would like to join this MEME let me know & I'll add a linky-link so I can feature them in this post.  All I ask is that you link back to me/this post in your post somehow!

For my inaugural Obsessing On.. post, I've decided to discuss my freshest obsession.  I was considerably late to the party on this one, but in my defense: I'm like the only one out of all the people I know around here who are actually into this. (That's a lie my boyfriend watches with me & I have one cousin who's a fan, but that's like IT!)  Anyways - without further ado, I am currently   Obsessing On...Doctor Who.

Doctor Who - TV Series
Synopsis: The Continuing Adventures of a time-traveling alien & his human companions as they travel across time & space saving worlds, helping innocent beings & generally making things right all over the universe.
Cast:  Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Billie Piper, Freema Agyeman, Catherine Tate, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill
2005-Present BBC UK
TV-PG, Sci-Fi, Adventure, Action, Drama
Plot Key Words: Alien, Time-Travel, London
This Series is a direct continuation of the original Doctor Who Series which originally ran from 1963-1989.

So, I kept seeing & hearing references to Doctor Who & how awesome the series was. Whether it be on the 'Geek' boards on Pinterest or on the sitcom The Big Bang Theory... the interweebs is even loaded with cool Harry Potter/Dcotor Who mash-ups...it seemed that nerds & geeks all over the world were united in the obsession on Doctor Who.  So I went hopeful but a little skeptical as to if and when I'd be jumping on the bandwagon...  I was SO not ready to LOVE everything about it as much as I do!!
Made of Win - especially coming from the mouth of Barty Crouch Jr. ;)
I'm not going to try and describe the show much, because it's impossible.  Honestly, trying to explain this show can't be done.  I could tell you it's about this guy...well at least he looks like a guy but really he's an alien breed known as a Time Lord.  He has a cool time machine (The TARDIS), a sonic screw-driver (yeah!) and he travels through time & space helping the innocent (often humans), saving worlds (especially Earth) and generally just being awesome 24/7.

The 9th Doctor Christopher Eccleston
The show had it's original run way back in 1963 all the way up to 1989.  Then it was regenerated (get it?!) in 2005 and the show is preparing for the launch of the new 2013 season at the end of March!
The Whovian Dream
Now I'll admit, I've only watched the episodes of the new 'continuation' series - the 2005-2013 episodes so to any hard-core Whovians : I am by NO means an expert!  I can tell you that you don't need to catch up on the old, original series to enjoy the newer episodes.  I can also tell you that if you are a fan of Sci-Fi, Time Travel, Adventures, the UK or freaking brilliant, intense, scary, exciting, sometimes weird and usually gut-wrenching television - THIS is the series for you!!

The TARDIS - The Doctor's Time Machine -&- a quote from David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor

I'm compare my obsession to Doctor Who to that of Harry Potter & Avatar: The Last Airbender, so RIGHT up there with the big dogs.  I started watching the new 2005 season in January of this year and I was entirely caught up by early March.  We have already begun re-watching the series, so you can imagine that I am pretty much living & breathing Doctor Who right now.  It's simply brilliant & I can't stress that enough!

The new season is set to start March 30th (finally) so it seemed logical for me to feature it now.  If you've heard about this series but haven't checked it out yet, I urge you to. If you've never heard of the series before now, PLEASE look it up.  And finally, if you're a Doctor Who addict like me, let me know in the comments below - I'm always up for chatting about all things Doctor ♥

  3. Hurray for a new fun feature!! I love books and I love book blogs, but sometimes it's fun to read about non-book related obsessions, and I have a few - so I may join you one of these times!

My bf is a big Doctor Who fan, but I have yet to get into it. From all accounts though, I think I really will love it too! I've actually watched a few episodes of Torchwood when it aired on CBC and I really enjoyed that so I figure that's a good sign. I bought my bf a sonic screwdriver for Christmas and now he points it at me frequently and scans me with it... I don't really get what that's about. Is it because I could be evil or because I need fixing? LOL, I guess I could start watching Doctor Who to find out!

  6. This meme is really fun!! I might join in on occasion! So I'm almost ashamed to admit I have never seen a single episode of Dr. Who. I don't even know what it's about. It's a British show isn't it? Okay so anyways, I am going to leave before I start getting attacked for my lameness of not having a clue about this at all.

  8. Oh what a great idea for a feature hun! I love fangirling and nerding out every once in a while ^^
I get Doctor Who stuff on my tumblr alll the time and I've wanted to start watching it for a while now, but I can't watch TV for too long, I get all fidgety. So it takes me forever to catch up on the 2 billion series I want to watch >.< So, respect for catching up on like 8 years' worth of material in such a short time!!!
Already looking forward to your future posts in this feature :)

    1. Thanks doll! Obsessing & geeking out is the best, it's a part of who I am 8-)
Well the seasons are pretty short in this series, only about 12-13 episodes per season. And they're at season 6 now so really it wasn't all that many. Plus when I discover a show I like (which is rare nowadays) I get compulsive & NEED to watch ALL the episodes!!

I'm thinking the next Obsessing On...might have something to do with Harry Potter ;)

  9. This is a great idea, Micheline! And I've heard so many wonderful things about Dr. Who! ;) I haven't seen it - I'm not a t.v. person really. But I have friends (and my oldest daughter) who love this series as well as Sherlock. I am obsessing over J.A. Huss' I Am Just Junco series right now. It's fantastic! :)

  10. I need to start watching Dr. Who! I hear only good things about that show. I'm kind of in a slump when it comes to TV shows ever since the last season of Lost... I do watch TV of course, but I'm not sure I'll ever be as invested in a show again as I was in that one.

Thanks for stopping by my TTT post today! I will make sure to check out this new feature of yours each time :)

  11. I can't tell you how much I love this feature!!!! Doctor Who is amazing!! I seriously can't wait until tomorrow for the new episode, especially since we have a new companion to look forward to! Who is your favorite Doctor so far and your fav companion? It's hard to choose but I really loved Amy and the Eleventh Doctor, though Ten does hold a special place in my heart. Do you have a favorite episode? I have to say, the Vincent Van Gogh episode was just so beautiful and sad that it has to be one of my favorites. I'm so happy to hear you're a Whovian!!

    1. YAY!!! :D YES IT IS!! I'm really enjoying Clara so far, can't wait to learn more about her and see her in action with Eleven more! Honestly, I love each Doctor & companion combo in their own way but my favorites have to be Ten & Rose...though I really loved Nine & Rose and Ten & Martha too ♥♥♥ Oh yeah the Van Gogh episode might be my favorite Eleven episode of all, along with Flesh and Stone and the one where the Tardis enters that woman haha!! Hmmmm, my favorite episode(s) - for Nine: Dalek,The Doctor Dances & The Parting of the Ways. For Ten (all of them?) but shout outs to Christmas Invasion, New Earth, Impossible Planet, the Shakespeare one, 42, BLINK(!!) and all the episodes with The Master!
